We LOVE our Maxi Cosi Pria 70. RF to 40lbs, FF to 70lbs and fits infants as small as 4lbs with the tiny fit insert. It is very low profile so it's great for cars and it's super easy to install. One hand adjustment for harness height and easy clean removable seat cover. Plus it looks really slick and is really safe with air head support. Got ours on Amazon. Oh and it's like the Chicco Keyfit 30 in that you can tighten the seat straps when putting your LO in and out.

This!!! This is the same seat we have and LOVE it! It's a bit on the expensive side but I seriously doubt we will have to buy another one. We bought a Safety 1st Complete Air 65 for MIL but we returned it and got a 2nd Maxi Cosi. The Safety 1st wouldn't install well enough to the point we were comfortable using it. The Maxi Cosi seemed like it was much better made and much easier to install.
I just ordered the peg perigo convertible seat, which I'm excited about. It is supposed to be good for extended RFing (tall shell & high weight limit) and easy to install. While the Diono is a great carseat, it doesn't fit properly in most cars so I'd definitely check on that first. If cost isn't an issue, you might also want to look into a Foonf. They are seriously an awesome carseat. If cost is an issue the my ride 65 is a good convertible seat. It will last a long time. (Not my favorite as I find it difficult at times to get the last little bit of tightening the straps at time difficult, but overall a good seat).

My six month old is about to be moved from her Chaperone into a cocoro. My five year old is riding rear facing in a Diono RXT. She is quite short and weighs under 40 pounds. As of yesterday she was 39.5 pounds. It is her choice to be rear facing. I have booster trained her as a necessity in case of emergency (which has happened) and she forward faces in my DH's truck.
Re: What's Your Convertible Seat?
We're going to get the Chicco NextFit (comes out in April).
If the NextFit wasn't coming out, we would get the Diono Radian XRT.
Both have steel frames and are tall enough for extended-rear-facing.
