Yes...if you have seen any of my other posts here, you may have figured that I am a little ADD. I am constantly looking for new things to do or new ways to do them so I am not getting bored and giving up. We have 3 (or maybe it's 4) crossfit 'boxes' in my area. I have been curious about it for quite some time, I have some coworkers that are into it and trying to convince me but I haven't taken that actual leap yet. Quite honestly, I am a little scared and a little intimidated (and the cost doesn't help either)! I'm not looking to do it for weight loss...since going back to work August of 2011, I've dropped about 50 lbs. (the majority between May and December last year). I'm more looking to build strength and cut down on the time spent in the gym.

Re: talk to me about crossfit
My sister was hard core into it before she got pg and loved it. She put me through some of the work outs and I really enjoyed them.
They work the snot out of you and they push you. If you are sore, you don't get to rest until rest day. You work through the soreness (and it actually helps!) but don't be intimidated.
Most places will start you off well, and there are introductory phases. Like, you may have to do 50 burpees, box jumps, wall balls, push ups, etc but you will be given modified positions so you are able to do all of them, instead of doing less of something. It's pretty good actually. They will also show you how to do everything properly, so you don't get injured.
What I like is he cost. It seems high at first (most places around $100/m) but in that you get a personal trainer, which most gyms around here are WAY more than that for gym and trainer.
I would check it out if you're interested. It will for sure get you in really good shape and super toned up. They'll develop a program that will help you achieve your goals.
I love it, it has completely changed my body. As far as the cost, consider like personal training every day, you get so much for your money. Research the boxes, some are better than others. Make sure hte trainers have more than just their level 1 certification, they should be fitness professionals. Also, make sure the box you join has an on-ramp class or beginners class and doesn't just dump you into the workouts.
Don't be intimidated - everything scales and you will be so surprised by what you can do
Crossfit is definitly intimidating. But, I'ev been doing it since day one of my pregnancy, and I' m STILL working out at my box 3-4x a week at nearly 38 weeks pregnant. That's one of the great things about crossfit, is you can scale nearly everything, and still get a great workout.
When I say scale, it means you can modify a movement. Usually Crossfit classes are a hour long. For my gym, it means the class is typically modified as such on a normal day (M-Th)
5 min-Warmup (rowing 1 k, running 8 m, jump rope,e tc)
10 min-mobility/more warm up work (stretching out arms, hips, some light calinsthentics etc)
15 min-strength or skill portion (finding you One rep max on a lift, working on handstands, etc...it varies)
5-10 min-Work out of the Day explained, set up if need be
5-25 min-Work out of the day (yes..it can seriously be any length of time like that!)
so really, the WODs are only 5-25 minutes (the rare exceptions are usually Hero WODS, which are work outs named after soldiers who have died in combat. These ones are typically longer, harder workouts. we usually do those Fridays at my gym, OR just find a harder workout to do) but they're INTENSE.
However, everything is scalable-you can modify almost all movements/weights. For example, yesterdays workout was
Row 1k
run 200 M with 50 lb sand back
-then-
3 rounds of :
10 pull ups
50 sit ups
-then-
100 double unders
...
I modified the pull ups (I used a light band for assistance), the sit ups (I did a 30 second plank hold) and the tdouble unders (I did 300 single jumps). I still got a good workout, but I didn't put my body in any harm.
As far as building strength, I personally think Crossfit is perfect. i've managed to gain strength while pregnant-ALL of my lifts (with the exception of 1) have gone up at least 10 lbs since pregnancy, without my ever having to try for a true 1 rep lift. I've just done the strength workouts to my comfortability, and when we test for a 1 rep max, I've been able to lift MORE than my previous 1 rep max multiple times. As far as the cost-there's usually less than 10-12 people in a class, and the coaches will walk around and work with every person one on one. Judging movement standards and coaching are a huge part of the Crossfit style, and it's the reason people continually make such leaps and bounds in their athletic performance.
I definitly think Crossfit is worth the try. As long as you put in the effort, you'll be able to see gains in no time.
Yep...I have definitely been doing my research! I got really excited when researching and found one had moved to just around the corner from me...bingo! Then I got to talking to people (one of my close friends was the classmate of a girl who opened a place on the other side of town, and at that same place one of the trainers is the BIL of one of my nest friends, a couple of coworkers are going to a few different locations in town). Since there are only 3 or 4 total in the area, it's is a small, tightknight community and I was hearing a lot of not so good about the one that was close to me. I think the kicker was when I found out from my coworker that the day after the owner of the one he was going to was killed (I think so far at least 5 people have been charged in this), the owner of the one I was interested in sent a blast email to all of those members not expressing condolences or anything, but pretty much begging them to come to him.
