Every morning, we find ourselves rushing to get out the door. This often means DH doesn't take the time to pack his lunch and ends up eating out. He doesn't buy extravagant meals, but still, it all adds up pretty quickly, not to mention it is such an unnecessary expense (the food is there, he just doesn't have the time to actually pack it)
I have now included packing our lunches in our 30-minute challenge. Now all DH has to do in the morning is open the fridge and grab his lunch bag. Easy peasy and I can't believe we didn't get started on this sooner.
Re: I love saving money
That's great!
When I started at my old job, a lot of people were also new, so going to lunch was a big social "getting to know each other" deal the first few months. I couldn't believe how quickly lunch costs added up, it was crazy!
I don't really like sandwiches, so I got into a habit of making a little extra for dinners most nights. When we cleaned up after dinner, I would pack the following day's lunch at the same time. Worked out great!
I try and pack DH's meals while I'm cleaning up dinner every night. At the firehouse they sometimes do family style meals. Usually that only costs us 3 dollars.
I'm the same way. I always make more so that there'll be enough for the next day's lunch. But that didn't keep us from struggling every morning. I guess we could try getting up earlier, but really, who wants to do that?
I wish 3! Every 24 hour shift is 20 for food. He works 23 of them a week and then each pay day is 20 house tax. The guys like "big meals" freaking blows when BK is across street and he would eat cheaper there in 24hrs. :
