South Shore Hospital

Has anyone delivered or planning on deliver at SSH? I will be delivering there in May. Just wondering if anyone has some feedback? The pictures online look very much like a hospital. I guess I was hoping more for a hospital that made you feel at home, but I don't get that from the website. Any info would be appreciated.

  • I'll be delivering there.  They have an amazing maternity ward!!

  • I haven't delivered there yet, but will in March.  I think their philosophy and approach is pretty great- priority of skin-to-skin following birth (vaginal or c-section), laboring and delivering in the same room, 2 hours of family time following an uncomplicated delivery (where they leave you and DH alone with baby for bonding time).  Also, the highest level NICU. SSH has really worked to make themselves a nigh quality, sought after maternity facility.  I'd say sign up to take a tour and see what you think.  We took one a few weeks ago and felt good about our choice.  And everyone we have talked to who has delivered there has had positive things to say.

  • I too will be delivering there, maybe in May, if I make it that long!   But I also spent a few nights in L&D and antenatal there about a month ago and really can't say enough good things about the care I received.  I also have yet to hear any bad experience stories on any of the message boards or from people I know regarding the maternity care. I am feeling quite comfortable about my decision to go there instead of a downtown hospital.

     HTH!

  • Hello,

I delivered my first dd there two years ago. Best hospital. I had complications and needed C section, they were great. I love the staff, nurses, docs. I am planning to deliver again there if I get pregnant again.

Also the food is great. you know what they say about hospital  food, but this hospital is great. Highly recommend!

    Good luck

  • I delivered my first at South Shore in January of 2011 and had an amazing experience. My labor and delivery nurse literally had me laughing between pushes if that's believeable lol.  I work around the corner from the hospital and have come to know a lot of the nurses on a more personal level.  They are all extraordinary women.  We've since moved to the Cape, I'm expecting my second and although it's an hour away, I choose SSH over Cape Cod and Jordan combined.
  • i will be delivering there in April but all my friends deliver there. I think you will be very happy there.  Great hospital, great NICU and they are strong advocates for breastfeeding.  They do offer free tours - just call them up and they have a bunch of times available.
  • I had my first two children there. I had amazing experience there. They have recently 1yr and 1/2ago redid the rooms. Good luck!
  • I had my son there and will have my 2nd there as well.  I had a great experience there, but it's definitely a hospital.  If you are looking for something more homey, you may want to look elsewhere.
