Gluten Free-Constipated?

I started my toddler on a gluten free trial last Monday and she pooed Tuesday and Wednesday (which was surprising because she usually goes once every other day or two) but she hasn't pooed since then. I am just wondering if anyone else's kiddo is on a gf diet and if this is generally normal when they first switch. Also, what things can I do to help get her to poo? And how long should I wait before I call the doctor?

Re: Gluten Free-Constipated?

  • Totally normal. In fact, the few days of constipation and gassiness might be followed by diarrhea. It's like the gut needs to figure out how to regulate itself on its own.

I would call the ped if she seems uncomfortable or her belly feels hard, but otherwise just try to increase her fiber (prune juice, p-fruits, etc.).
