Hi! Things have been busy between work and CK getting the stomach bug, but I wanted to respond to your tubes post from a few days ago.
CK got tubes back in November. Our ped's rule of thumb was 4 infections in 5 months. For us, it got to the point where her ear infections weren't clearing up and we kept having to use a stronger antibiotic. When we went to the ENT, we were very on the fence about if we'd proceed with the surgery.
At her ENT checkup, she had ANOTHER double ear infection. Also, based on the fluid in her ears, the doctor said her hearing was as muffled as it sounds if you stick your fingers in your ears. That was enough for us - we decided to proceed.
TBH, CK had a terrible time coming out of the anesthesia - it was exorcist-like, and apparently happens that way for about 5% of toddlers. But within two hours, she was back to her normal self and has been a happier kid ever since. It is obvious to me that her hearing is better, her language development has gone through the roof. (She probably says at least 40 words.)
Like the doctor told us would happen, she's still gotten ear infections, but her ears drain and we can see the fluid and immediately treat with drops (which we keep on hand). She doesn't have the pain/pressure she used to have, and the infections clear up quickly.
Anyway, just wanted to tell you about our experience. GL!
