I will try a min or two. If nothing I gently bounce a little and try again. If nothing then I go back to feeding. At the end I lay him on my should alternating between patting and rubbing.

This, I guess EBF babies don't always take in as much air as they would through a bottle. I can usually tell if I'm going to get a burp or not quickly based off if she's fussy or not.
I can tell when DS needs to burp because he doesn't fuss when I start to try to burp him...but even if he does it can take a bit or sometimes I have to try different burping positions to get one out of him...he used to burp so good but about two weeks ago it became more difficult. Usually it works best to lay him over my knees face down and burp him or up high on my shoulder walking around an bouncing just a bit.
He let out a 30 year-old-man bletch a few days ago...not sure that's normal...
Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

Hahahaha, mine did too, I was so proud!
LOL, DH was in the other room and scolded me for doing it...he was very proud when I told him it came from his son...but it scared me honestly. Such a big burp out of a little guy!

It used to take me 10 minutes or more when I was patting her back. I knew she needed to burp because her stomach felt tight and she was really fussy. I've since changed my technique to a rub/massage and I get really loud burps within a minute.

Same, patting rarely gets me anywhere. I only pat to soothe.
Re: How long do you try to burp LO?

Just a few minutes. If they don't burp within a few mins it's not going to happen. 10+ is too long.
