EBF Constipation?

LO is EBF and hasn't pooped in 3 days. I read that breast milk really shouldn't stop him up, but he just isn't himself lately.  I've been doing belly massage, gripe water, tummy time, and letting him play on his mat a lot (bc he really kicks at the toys) but nothing seems to help.

The Dr said to give him 1oz of warm water. I was apprehensive about doing this after reading all the negatives online.. but hated to see him so miserable. So I tried, but he won't take it. He will take bottles from DH so I'm not sure if its me or the water that's making him mad.

Anyone have a good trick for getting LOs to take a bottle?

Or additional suggestions for helping with constipation?

My LO is EBF.  He didnt go for a week straight.  After 4 days I called the Pedi.  They said if all else is normal (behavior, sleeping, etc.) than its nothing to worry about.  For us, that was the case.  He was himself, just no poop.  After a week he had 3 huge BM's.  My Pedi said that BF babies have very little "waste" left over, and thats why some dont poop as often, and it happens most often after 2 months of age.  You mention your LO not acting himself, so I'm not quite sure.

Thanks, I'm probably worrying more than I should. His belly is grumbling and gassy... he just seems uncomfortable.

BTW: I LOVE your siggy pic!!

  • CJ poops every 3-6 days. Towards the last day or so when he needs to poop he is more gassy, and tends to sleep less than usual. Then explosive poop and happy baby comes back. My dr. Said not to worry unless more than a week, or when he does poop it is hard and pellet like or if there is swelling in the abdomen. Gl
