Laziness is basically why I'm looking at it. I like to pretend I'm some sort of domestic goddess but I barely have time to cook for DH and I, let alone a baby!
I'm not going to say we did BLW, because we didn't read anything about it, but when it came time to start introducing actual food we didn't necessarily give only pur?ed food.
When we started, I tried one food at a time pur?ed to check allergies (I have a few food allergies), but at 6 months we introduced Cheerios and puffs and steamed veggies (still soft but solid), then other things like toast etc. we didn't really start giving her what we ate until about 1 year. Then we were introducing pb&j and milk eggs etc. so she got what we had, I still cut it into bite sized pieces, but purees are out the window. Every now and then she eats a veggie pouch, but it's a rare occurance.
I did give DD1 some homemade pures at first but quickly incorporated blw baby led weaning. Other that it being easier, I think it fosters a healthy attitude towards food. LO is in charge of what she eats and how much she wants. Plus, it is fun to see peoples reactions when they see your 9 month old baby mowing down on a chunk of grilled cheese. We always have given DD1 whatever we eat as long as it isn't really spicy, and now she will eat almost anything.

I see no issues with BLW. There isn't anything wrong with using baby food, either. It's just... more work! My mom complained that she wouldn't get to feed Shirya when we did it last time around. Then she realized - this is WAY better! Yes, it's messy. But think about it. WHENEVER you start letting your kiddo eat on their own it's going to be messy. I think it's easier to bathe off a baby than it is a toddler who thinks it's funny to make a mess. Shirya has her flaws, but she is an AWESOME eater and has great table manners. We always have family dinner, so she is used to the fact that she has to sit at the table and eat with us. She's eating the same thing, and if she doesn't want it, then... that's it until the next meal. The ONLY time we have issues with her at meal times are when we're with people who give their kids something different than what everyone else is eating. Drives me nuts, because my SIL does that for her kids. They all get chicken nuggets while the rest of the family is eating turkey (for example). Shirya, who is younger than her cousins, sits nicely at the table and eats the turkey! But ... she wants to be with her cousins, so...
But that's a totally different parenting thing. So. BLW. Easy. Forces me to eat healthier meals since I'm feeding my kid the same thing. Daycare lunches are easy since it's just last night's leftovers. No need to purchase anything different, so cost effective. And teaches the kids that this is dinner from a VERY early age.
Ahhh, my MIL is going to get upset at this.
I cant wait to start looking into this. It just makes sense.
