Hi Ladies,
I need some of your words of wisdom. I currently have a job that for the most part I like and like majority of the people I work with. Flexibility with hours, can go home to dd at lunch. The downside of this job is no advancement unless my boss quits/fired/retired. Which the likely hood of any of 3 happening is slim to none and the benefits suck.
My friend called me last Thursday about a job opening at her work, she talked me into applying - I mainly did it bc I never in a million years thought I would be considered. I get a call yesterday for an interview, now I feel like I could throw up.
I keep telling myself to calm down bc it is only an interview but I am freaking out. It is a typical 9 to 5 job, and I wouldn't be able to come home at lunch to DD. Has advancement and great benefits. Yes I know its a no brainer but I am a big baby and I hate to give up anytime with DD. We both have separation anxiety with each other. Thanks for reading!
Re: Words of wisdom
What are your long-term plans and goals? Which company fits better with those? Is the new job something that you are really interested in that would be a good fit for the long haul?
And it's just an interview. If it really is something you're considering, make sure to come up with a list of questions that would help you decide if it's a better fit than your current job.
1 - You're right - No need for you to freak out - Save that for when they offer you the job
2 - So you would lose lunch hour with DD, but what about the rest of the time? Like, how much longer/shorter would your commute be? How much PTO are you getting now/would you be getting?
3 - Also, benefits and advancement are great, but what about the job in itself? And how does your friend like it there?
Good luck on your interview and keep us posted.
I agree with ladybug's point, that a lot of your decision is based on what you're looking for in terms of future career goals. Do you see yourself continuing to be happy going to your current job every day, knowing you won't advance? Or are you looking to develop a career?
It truly doesn't hurt to go on an interview and just see what's out there. It's good practice! I would just go, see if they make you an offer, and then weigh your decisions.
