August 2013 Moms

Am I imagining it? Movement?

I felt a couple weird movements (?) in the middle of my belly toward to back of my stomach.

It wasn't like the other feelings I usually get (gas which is lower and more to my left) and cramps (which are lower).

I am 15 weeks today, FTM.

It is still too early, right?

  • I personally don't think it's too early as I am positive I started feeling movement in the last week too. At first there were a few random bubble popping sensations a few inches above my pubic bone. I chalked it up to gas but wondered in the back of mind. Then I used the doppler for a few minutes, not the usual five to ten seconds I normally do it, and felt the exact same sensation for almost the entire time I had the doppler on her. I now feel it every single time I use the doppler longer than 30 seconds but have decided all that dancing might mean she doesn't like the doppler so I am back to limiting it to a few seconds. So yeah, i might have kept on chalking it up to gas if it weren't for the doppler, now I know what she feels like and usually feel her once or twice a day if I sit very still for a while. It's definitely not all the time or strong enough to notice if I'm busy moving around.

  • I'm 15w4d and definitely feeling the baby... Especially after I eat or drink something cold or hot. It puts a smile on my face as I go about my day at work. Feels like little tickles near my belly button. So I'm sure that's what it is! :)
  • I started feeling baby move last night and I'm 15 weeks, so no. 15 weeks is not too early.

  • I have been pretty sure that I am feeling movement too. I'm a little over 15 weeks too. I only feel it sporadically but I think that is what it is. So exciting :

My DD liked to kick the doppler too- I forgot about that :) I can't wait to feel this LO kick, but I have a few more weeks to wait.

  • I think if you have a slight build it's very possible.  I was pretty overweight with DD and didn't feel movement until 20.5 weeks.

I'm overweight and I felt baby at exactly 15 weeks..I think you just have to be really tuned into your body. Everyone is different! C:

  • I was wondering the same thing! I'm 15 weeks and Monday night I was sitting on the couch after eating a snack and felt the oddest feeling. At first I thought maybe it was gas but it didn't feel like anything I've felt before. Not painful, just a little swirly, fluttery feeling. I was wondering if it was baby but kept thinking it's too early.
  • Just FYI for the FTM's who haven't felt it before - it feels like a very light tapping from the inside.  And it will still be low at this point, so anything around your belly button likely isn't the baby.

    Such exciting stuff!

  • I don't think it's too early.  My doctor's office asked me yesterday if i was feeling movement and I am only 12 weeks.  I told her I have felt some weird flutters but that I just passed it off as something else because I thought it was too early.  She told me that that was probably what it was because I was getting to where I should start feeling little things like that.  Just not full movement or kicks yet.  So exciting!! :)

  • I asked my OB about this last night! I feel the same thing sometimes. It really is the baby! She said not many women feel it but thats what it is. Its like you can feel a flutter. Very exciting!
  • I hear it's normal around 15 weeks...

So Here's a stupid question, but how can you tell the difference between kicks and gas in the beginning? I hear that it feels like "flutters."  I would feel bad if i tell my husband to feel my belly and it's just gas bubbles, lol. Is it pretty obvious?

  • I am so looking forward to feeling movement but since I am a FTM with an anterior placenta I think it'll be awhile!!!
  • I believe you can feel movement but middle of your belly isn't quite right for how far along you are, your ute is a bit below your belly button.

You can feel gas pretty much all over in there, you have miles of intestines snaking around in there, and the growing uterus will push it into places you might not be used to.

  • I am 13 weeks. This is my third. I swear last night I felt baby. It was a light tapping.

I feel like its too early, but I still like thinking that just maybe it was baby! :)

  • I felt them at about 14 weeks with dd. it was low in my belly and I could immediately tell the difference. It was the tapping sensation that pp talked about.
