Gas???

Hello all,

My poor little man seems to be going on his 2nd week of gas. I feel so bad. We talked to the dr at his 2 week appointment on Friday and she said it is just a phase he is going through and it will work its way out eventually. I have tried gas drops, gripe water, bicycle legs, changed bottles, everything I can think of. He tends to be super fussy in the morning and early afternoon then again later at night.

Does anyone have suggestions on what else to try? He will just scream and looks super uncomfortAble all the time. At times it also seems like after he eats he like chokes(on nothing, like he has a fur ball) and he is always arching his head and back.

Re: Gas???

  • I know you said bottles but are you pumping milk or formula feeding? It could be a reaction to either the formula (although Im not a formula mom so I dont know much about it) or something you are eating if its your milk. I am off dairy now b/c dr. thought that would help my guy's tummy and it has.

  • I am exclusively pumping. And I have not been eating dairy because I actually became lactose. Tolerant while pregnant. I just feel like. Am trying everything and nothing is working.

  • It sounds like reflux, not gas. Talk to your pedi, he probably needs zantac.

  • My LOsid the same thing and she was BF only and my ped diagnosed her with reflux. He put her on Zantac and that helped greatly! She took it for about a month and I keep it on hand in case she has a bad day, but for her that worked. Hope he gets relief soon cause I know how awful it is.

  • You think? You can tell he has some gas because Even when he is sleeping he will strain like he is trying to poop/fart. but, reflux Is what I was afraid of. I will have to call the nurse and talk to her about it. I just feel so bad for him.
  • What symptoms did your LO have?

  • This is exactly what we're dealing with.  DD has had, what I thought was, terrible gas since we brought her home (now 6 weeks).  We tried everything you mentioned plus the Towle Method of feeding/burping and chamomile...still consistent bouts of screaming/writhing after feedings.  Our doctor said the same thing..."immature digestive system, she'll outgrow it".  Problem is- we might be full on crazy by then!

I called the doctor at the first of this week and asked if we could try Prevacid for thirty days to see if it helps. I don't see a difference yet, but he said it could take a few weeks. At this point it couldn't hurt to try...not all reflux is projectile vomiting, there is a silent reflux that can cause the symptoms our LO's are experiencing.

  • I just called my nurse as well and they scheduled me an apt for tomorrow afternoon. I am going to see if they will let me try the Prevacid as well. It can't hurt. I can't believe you have been doing this for 6 weeks, I would have gone crazy by now!

This. My DD is on Zantac.
  • I really hope you don't have to do it for 6 weeks- it sucks for LO and us!  Hopefully the antacid will help your little man!  Good luck!
