Leather seats and car seat

So now that my car officially is too embarrassing to drive (see twatwaffle post) I'm going to expedite getting a new one. My current car has leather seats, and it for some reason doesn't have the LATCH system. P's car seat doesn't go in tight enough it seems, and then because of the leather it slides around way too much. So now I refuse to let him in my car.

Now, is this just because I don't have LATCH, or is this a common occurance with leather?

*Also, I have one of those seat protector things that goes underneath, to try to keep it in place with the stickier side. Doesn't work still!

Re: Leather seats and car seat

  • I don't have the latch system and DO have leather seats and his carseat doesn't slide. You might just want to bring it somewhere that does a carseat check and they can help get it right and show you how to do it in between now and when you get a new car.

  • Both of our vehicles have leather and the latch system.  We don't have a problem with the seat sliding.  We also don't have anything under the seat, so I guess we'll see if it ends up damaging the leather, but it doesn't seem to.
  • Leather and the latch system. Our Britax Chaperone does not budge.

I have the latch systema dn leather seat.  I noticed a bit of a slip with DDs carseat, but not W's. I actually folded a towel in half and put it over the seat and put the carseat on top.  It keeps it in place and helps protect the leather seat.  You could try that.

*If it has to be taken out of the car and put back in, I have one of my brothers tighten it for me.  They get it super tight.  Try actually getting in it and putting your knee in the base and then pull the strap to tighten. Your weight will help get it good and tight.

...and I'll just go ahead and say tight again for good measure.  Tight. tight. Ok, I'm done.

What was that? Was it ...tight?

Good and tight? You worry me sometimes Huh?

  • My car is a new model, 2012. It has both the latch and the seat-belt connector.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • FI has leather ssays and no latch system in his car and when we went to get the carseat installed and the lady put (ok this is going to be a bad explanation) the sticky mat things that you put inside cabinets in your kitchen and then the car seat on top and as PP suggested put your knee and all your weight on the base and pull tight. That thing will not move. But if it means you get a car maybe you should forget all of our advice ;)
