Switching From Soy to Regular Formula

Hi there ladies--

My son has been on soy formula since he was about 6 weeks old.  We had tried Similac Advance and Similac Sensitive previous to that, but he seemed to be gassy and uncomfortable.  My doctor recommended trying soy formula and it seems to have helped except for the constipation which led us to have to put miralax in his morning bottle.  I know that starting at age 1 you can start transitioning to regular cows milk and have been debating whether or not to try easing him into this transition by trying regular formula again.  Have any of you transitioned from soy to regular formula?  My little guy is a little over 8 months old now and I know he will be 1 before I know it.  If you did transition from soy to regular formula, did you just start giving regular?  Or did you do some bottles as soy and some as regular.  Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!  :)

Re: Switching From Soy to Regular Formula

  • We made the switch from soy to milk-based formula about 1 month ago because the constipation with the soy formula too.  We were doing soy because DH has terrible lactose intolerance and he was so concerned that DD would too.

We started off by giving her a 50/50 mix and slowly moved to all milk over the course of a week.  We did find that she was spitting up so much, so we tried giving her 4 oz bottles more frequently and that helped, because she wasn't getting overloaded with the lactose of 6-8 oz bottles.
