I'm 8w now and feel like I'm getting sick: dry cough, sore throat choking me.  Anyone sick and taking safe meds? Help!

I'm sick as a dog. There's not much you can take. There are 3 large OB groups where I live and they all say different things. Mine says Claratin, Benedryl and Allegra - No "D". With my first they said Sudafed was ok, now they said no although other groups still allow it. Tylenol is ok.  I don't know anyone that allows any type of cough syrup, not even plain guafesten (sp?). I would kill for a cough suppressant. I've been drinking tea with honey and lots of cough drops for the throat.

Oh no. Being sick when pregnant SUCKS.

My greatgrandmother had a recipe from The Old Country that I used to use when I was singing in high school but had trashed my throat from screaming during my sports events. Worked overnight like a charm but it tastes unfortunate: hot water, lemon juice, garlic, and honey. Drink it like a tea. As much lemon and garlic as you can stand.

The other thing I find helpful with throat/respiratory stuff is gargling with Listerine. It's actually a fantastic anti-bacterial (it was originally "invented"/discovered as an antibiotic).

I'm on day 8 of being wickedly sick. I know there are mixed opinions from doctors, but my midwives approved of these...Tylenol, nasal spray (sparingly), cough drops, Robutussin or Dimetapp for cough, Sudafed (though with mixed reviews I've only taken it a few times out of desperation). I also used a neti pot, cold packs and hot compresses. No fever, just crazy head cold, ear ache, jaw pain, sinuses, cough, headache, sore throat, exhaustion and fatigue...that's all... Super Angry its been a long week. Hang in there, I do feel my body must be putting all its resources to the baby (good) because I have not gotten better until today I'm a wee bit better.

My midwife OK's Robitussin DM, she just advised to take it only when you really need it. I used before bed to try to sleep a little better. Also similar to the Neti pot I have a sinus rinse squeeze bottle and use it in the shower, combined with the steam it really helps. Hope you get over it soon.

I was sick a couple of weeks ago.  My doc says Sudafed (pseudoepinephrine, the kind behind the pharmacy counter that you have to sign your name for, not the newer stuff) is OK in the regular dosage, but no extended tabs.  Tylenol is also OK, and you can try a netipot for your nasal congestion.  I used Sudafed a couple of times a day.  With my last pregnancy, I also used it for a cold, and my DD came out just fine. :)  My doc also OK's Benadryl and Robitussin (but you have to get the cough-only kind, which is difficult to find).  No combination medicines are allowed.  Hope this helps!
