Sleeping on stomach?

I'm 11weeks today and I wake up during the night on my stomach...do I need to stop this? Also I told someone today that I hadn't been sick and they said well I hope you do because that means you have a heathy baby...I'm sure it can go both ways but know I'm a little worried about not having morning sickness? Clearly I'm a first time mom any advice is appreciated.

Re: Sleeping on stomach?

  • I don't know about sleeping on your stomache - I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that when your belly really starts to grow it'll probably be a pretty uncomfortable position and you will just naturally stop. I don't know how you'd stop this in your sleep. I also think, at this stage, because your uterus usually isn't up high enough at this stage of the game, that you're not doing much damage.
As far as being sick, count yourself lucky. There are some women who don't experience many symptoms at all and still go on to have a nice healthy baby. Don't even worry about it. Trust me...the symptoms aren't all that fun! lol!

  • Eventually you will want to stop sleeping on your stomach, but your body usually lets you know because it will begin to be uncomfortable. I don't think it's until 20ish weeks that you need to worry about it.

Shame on people for giving you reasons to worry because you haven't been sick.  Generally, m/s is a sign of a healthy baby, but it doesn't work the other way around - no m/s is not a sign of an unhealthy baby.  Enjoy your pregnancy!  Your next one could be the opposite!

  • You're totally fine! It's safe as long as it is physically comfortable for you. Your body will tell you when to stop. I've been a stomach sleeper my whole life, so I'm starting to transition to side and back positions now at 11w. It's hard! What has really helped is using a maternity pillow. The curved part between my legs and the body in front of me. It stays in place and it is nearly impossible to roll over onto my tummy.

As far as sickness goes, that was very false information you were given. No symptom is a sign of how healthy the baby is. Some women never get sick and have perfect babies. It's a blessing, so love it! Things could change overnight.
Feeling like a big bloated hormonal whale of a tale. It's awesome.
  • I'm super paranoid about pressure on my stomach but apparently your body will just tell you when it gets too uncomfortable.

Don't buy into the m/s myth. My mom never had it with me or my sis and we turned out okay :)

  • Sleeping on your stomach is fine until your body is uncomfortable with it. As far as the morning sickness goes, that is not true. I mean there are studies that suggest that woman who don't have ms have more miscarriages but since you are 11weeks I think you are ok. Plus I don't know how true those studies are.

  • I sleep on my stomach because it is the only way I can get comfortable. I plan on sleeping on my stomach until it gets so huge that it is more uncomfortable than sleeping on my side.

This person has no idea what in the hell they're talking about. Ignore.

  • I haven't had any mornig sickness and the baby is progressing just fine. Who ever said you had reason to worry is nuts. Some people don't get ms. Every pregnancy is different. You may have other symptoms they did not have.

  • My doctor actually said she wouldn't give me any sleep restrictions. She said to sleep how you are comfortable and your body will force you to move long before it is dangerous for baby.

  • Statistically they say lack of morning sickness happens to women who have had miscarriages but this isn't nearly always true. Many with lack of morning sickness still have healthy babies
  • I slept on my stomach until it got uncomfortable. That person needs to stfu. I had no ms with the boys and that didn't cause my cord to fail with Audan and Lucas is a very healthy baby.

  • Sleep however is comfortable, your body will let you know when you need to switch positions. And I didn't have m/s with DS and he is perfectly healthy. Don't listen to her.

  • I haven't had morning sickness either and so far and my baby and I are fine! I was a little worried bc someone said something similar to me. People can be so rude! Every pregnancy is different. Some women experience no symptoms at all!
  • You are good. Sleep however you can sleep at this point. Your body will tell you when you need to move. At some point, that won't be possible anymore, so enjoy it while you can babe! Big Smile

Also, no M/S does NOT mean you don't have a healthy baby. Some women never have any M/S or vomiting and their babes are fine. Some are sick from the get-go and it never lets up. Their babes are fine, too. Like I mentioned earlier, please enjoy it. I am sick from the time I wake up until I go to sleep (and even during the middle of the night at times).  There will be other symptoms down the road that remind you just how pregnant you are.

  • OP, I don't have m/s either.  I chalk it up to good genes as my mom didn't have m/s with any of us three kids and we all are perfectly healthy.  It certainly isn't an indication of anything.  When I told my midwife that I wasn't sick, she was so happy, not worried for the health of my baby.

  • I have always slept on my stomache, seemed more comfortable. This past week or two it's not felt comfortable I'm 13 weeks and I'm feeling sad about that change. It's taking me longer to fall asleep as I get used to sidesleeping
