Trying to Get Pregnant

New and need advice

Hi!  I finished my last pack of BC in January and I am waiting for my period to start.  If I were still on the pill I would have gotten my period about 5 days ago.  I've had PMS symptoms for the last week but still no period.  I am anxious to get it so that I can start charting and trying to figure out my ovulation day.  Should I be using an ovulation kit?  It seems like many people are using one.  I am 34 years old turning 35 this year.  Thanks!!

Re: New and need advice

  • Did you get your period on your "off" week from the pill?  It's common for it to take a while for your cycles to even out.  There is a chance you could be pregnant now, even, if you haven't been preventing.  I'd POAS to confirm tomorrow.  My first cycle off of bc was 55 days, then 45 etc etc etc... I hope you don't have my luck! ;)

  • I didn't get my period for a full month after stopping the pill, even though I should have got it then as my 'week off'. Cycles can be very wonky coming off the pill, for several months even. Is normal. Definitely start charting/temping, using OPKs, etc. to figure out what your body is doing.

  • My last period ended jan 13 which was the period I got after the "week off the pill"  I only had sex 3 times since then so I doubt I'm pregnant.  do you need to buy an ovulation kit every month?

  • for me, went off bc in aug and promptly had the light on bc period right away. then i had my first AF in Oct which was like 50 some days later.

My cycles are still irregular so I find OPKs to be helpful. If my cycles are so regular that I can kind of predict my usual O days I may consider not using it. but since I'm still irregular and i see multiple fertile CM in a cycle I don't know which one is the real FW, i prefer to use OPKs every cycle. I am taking bbt too but so far my temps are also everywhere I have not seen 3 day temp rise to pinpoint O day.

  • They aren't "Kits" really. They are test strips... Similar to pregnancy tests. You can buy a box of them at any drug/grocery store or order some really cheap ones from Amazon. I like the wondfo brand. There are also digital tests, which take the guess work out of reading lines... But given that you just got off the pill, your cycles are likely to be wonky and that would get pricey. Read the instructions. Digitals usually call for first morning urine, the others recommend afternoon because it can take a bit for the LH to build up. When I use them, I test twice a day with wondfos so that I don't miss a surge. Good luck and check out fertilityfriend.com

  • Took a test a test tonight and it was negative.  While waiting I was not sure if I wanted it to be positive or not.  I would be thrilled to be pregnant but honestly I still want more time with my hubby if that makes sense.  Once we get pregnant it is no longer me and him it's me, him and the baby.  It's hard because my husband and I are still newlyweds and in an ideal world I want to travel and do other things with my husband but I'm turning 35 this year and feel that time is running out for me.  Im happy to be able to post and vent here.  Thanks for listening
  • Welcome.  My first cycle off the pill was 36 days.  Your body could take some time to find it's new normal.  That normal may or may not be the 28 days it was while on the pill.
