Ok moms and dads...My DD is 22 months. She is showing signs of readiness for the big potty training day so I have 4 days off this weekend and am going to give the "3-Day" method a go. My daycare is totally on board with helping! YAY!
However, my question lies in this...She is still in a crib. I mean she could easily wake us up to go potty at night but should i be moving her into a regular bed before potty training or how did you go about doing this? She is totally content sleeping in her crib and I sure wouldn't mind if she stayed in it for a while longer yet. HELP!
Re: Potty - Crib
No need to move her into a bed. It takes longer to sleep train than it does to day train. It could be a few years still until your child is able to hold it overnight or wake up to go.
good luck!
Coming from somebody who just took the front of the crib off this weekend (my dd turned 3 last week) I'd leave the crib as is. We also just started potty training, the last 2-3 attempts were fails but so far this one was her plan and its going much better. Anyway, I loved knowing that once she was in bed and that she couldn't get out. I wouldn't mess with a good thing, personally.
DD PT at 26 months and 2 weeks later was done with nighttime diapers. She is still in her crib (and in a sleep sack) and will be until September (when her cousin moves out to go to college and she will get her room). She rarely needs to pee in the middle of the night but for the most part she is really good about telling me if she does need to go potty. Then I just get her up and on the potty and then she goes back to bed. Her room now is attached to ours so it is easy. I also put a time limit on her potty time in the middle of the night (3 minutes) and do it in the dark (her little potty is near her bed so I don't have to take her to the bathroom) so going back to sleep isn't a problem.
Even if your DD night time trained soon she would likely still need your help to go potty and so whether she was in a crib or bed, you would still need to get up with her. I would just do one thing at a time. If you moved her to a toddler bed and PT you may be up half the night anyway with her new found freedom. I'm keeping mine contained for as long as possible (she will be 3 in May), especially since she it totally content in her crib.
we did pting in the crib, didn't switch out until about 2 months after she trained, and that was only because she was throwing her leg over the side and I thought it was just a matter of time before she fell out!
we do diapers at night anyway, and if she does wake and has to go she yells for me (even though she's in a toddler bed)
I'd just keep your LO in the crib as long as possible!!
