Developmental milestones

So, I'd like to have some reassurance. From reading the posts on here, I always feel like DD is behind. I know every baby is different, but it seems like DD is a little behind in Both physical milestones and language milestones

She just got to where she is rolling over from back to tummy with any frequency and she still doesn't roll from tummy to back unless it is when she is getting onto her tummy from a sitting position and the momentum takes her onto her back.  I am not sure if it is intentional when she goes onto her tummy from a sitting position.  She seems like she will crawl soon but she isn't army crawling or regular crawling yet.  She will scoot a pretty decent distance mostly as she is reaching for things that are just out of her reach.  She isn't pulling up yet either.  She will bear weight on her legs but won't take steps or anything when we hold her hands.

She laughs and makes vowel sounds but no da, ba, or ma yet.  She laughs and smiles a lot.

She loves playing with her toys, passes them from hand to hand, will shake them, and manipulate them in other ways.  She can hold her bottle on her own but only really does it about 25%

She seems happy, healthy, and to be progressing but it just seems like others are so far ahead of her.  I talk to her  constantly, sing alot, and try to play with her as much as I can. I am a stay at home mom so she is with me 95% of the time.

I'd love to hear folks thoughts and if anyone feels the same way about their LO.

Re: Developmental milestones

  • I notice this too when I read post here but shes doesn't sound behind at all to me.  She sounds happy, healthy and moving along at her own pace.  Scooting, laughing, smiling are physical and social milestones she's hitting and it sounds like she enjoys interacting with you and her toys.  I wouldn't worry too much about what you read here.  All of our LO's are different and your daughter is probably ahead in other ways that just haven't come up.  There is also a wide age range here. My LO NEVER holds his own bottle not matter how hard we try to get him to and definitely no ma, ba, da sounds, mostly just a lot of grunting!  If you are really worried check with your pedi but I wouldn't worry about it.

  • She sounds fine to me. My ds is not pulling up or crawling either. Pulling up at seven months is early and walking at seven months is almost not heard of but does happen those LOs are just ahead of the game. My dd did not pull to a stand until 13 months and she is fine. Ds just started saying ba this week. So don't worry

  • I could have written this post and my son is 8 months and 1 week. He does roll over but he isn't really interested in that.  I honestly think that from this point on I might take a break from the internet and books.  It just makes me worry for nothing and its not good for me or my little one.  Plus mothers are competitive.  Some moms may think their babies are saying things when really they aren't and so on.  Im sure Im guilty of it at some point.  Lately I have been going on the American Pediatrics Association website and it says that babies typically say mama and dada at 10-11 months.  I would take a look at it.  It will make you feel better!!
  • I feel the same way sometimes.  But then, I have to remember that DD is at the very end of June (the 29th), and at this young age, a couple weeks makes a big difference!  She was due in July, so I'll often go back to the July board to make myself feel better about her milestones.

  • it's hard not to compare, but I think there is a wide range of normal. DD isn't crawling or pulling up, she doesn't push up on all fours. she is content to sit and play with her toys though. I'm trying to focus on what she is doing well, like waving and clapping and engaging in social interaction.

  • Enjoy it while your LO is not very mobile... it is crazy once they start crawling. Some moments I don't know why we encourage it so much... like every timd DS find the cat food...
  • Perfectly normal...it's part & parcel the nature of forums...no one really is going to pot we are. Avino a ho, hum, happy day but will if there is an exciting new development, you know?  Dd is close to crawling, but not there yet.  She does an aboo sound and that's about it besides screeches, etc.  I'm not concerned in the slightest.  She is very sociable, likes playing w her toys and taking things in.  And tbh w everything we have got going on (moving, selling our house) I'm glad she's not mobile.

  • Thanks all! This is helpful!
  • DD rolls like a bandit but isn't interested in crawling AT ALL.  She will stand when we hold her hands but shows no interested in pulling herself anywhere.  She babbles but mostly just dada :P And also no teeth either which seems strange since I could have sworn she's been teething for months! Haha.  Every baby is different.  It's hard not to be a little jealous when someone's ahead of the game (I have a coworker whose DD is 6 weeks older than mine and is crawling and pulling up and has been for probably 2 months) but I keep telling myself it's not a big deal.  You're not alone!
