So DS poop has been green this past week and now I noticed mucus in it. Utilizing Dr Google it says it could be possible dairy allergy. He doesn't seem to be in pain. The fact that it started almost 3 months into him nursing surprises me. I'm not a Dr and I'm calling in the morning but has anyone had this happen to them? If that is the case I'm giving up dairy but I'm hoping it's not the case

Re: Dairy Allergy BF'ing?
Not sure about the mucousy poop... But when I Was BFing and dairy was the issue we KNEW it.. DS screamed and pulled his legs and grunted.. He was no doubt uncomfortable... But I've heard of other cases where the babies reactions were much more mild.. So I'm basically no help..
Ive also heard people say that if ur baby is sick with a cold, they could pass mucous through the stool... Any cold symptoms?
Hope the ped can help!!
I'm sorry your DS had to go through that pain. I'm hoping it's something else.
Thank you. Of course tomorrow is my first day back to work and I'm sure they will want to see him!

As a dairy and soy allergy/sensitivity veteran, I can tell you that my experience started within a couple weeks of life, and featured inconsolable screaming, gas and green mucousy, stringy poops. Green alone with no other signs (and no blood) doesn't sound like an allergy/sensitivity reaction. If your ped suggests cutting dairy from your diet, you will also need to consider cutting out soy (allergy/sensitivity to one commonly occurs with that of the other) and cut out all sources of these things for upwards of 4-6 weeks to see if it really makes a difference -- this is how long it takes to clear it for your system and the baby's. Be prepared that this effectively means (1) no to very little packaged or processed foods, (2) no eating out (it is too difficult to know how food is prepared), and (3) that you will spend a significant amount of time making sure you get enough calories to nourish yourself and produce milk for the baby.
The food allergy board has a MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance) check in and there are other web sources for learning about finding hidden dairy and how to manage your diet.
I was dairy and soy free for almost 10 months, and to be honest I don't think I could do it again. DS had wicked reflux and I was afraid to try any sort of formula until his gut had matured a bit. I'm 8 weeks pg and if this LO has MSPI I don't know that I can do it all again.
Long way of saying that it is worth ruling out other causes (any chance of over active letdown?) before you go dwn the MSPI road. If you do, though, I am happy to share with you some of the tricks I learned to permit eating remotely normally.
Good luck.

Motherhood is not for wimps
It could be, but I will say I have thought DD had a milk allergy since she was born due to mucousy poo, and the fecal occult sample never came back positive. I think some babies just have weirder poos than others. DD has just always had weird poos. Solids have helped a lot
The green and mucous COULD BE from a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance which is nothing serious or urgent.
I do have an over supply. I have alot of milk in my freezer I typically have around 20 ounces extra each day. I will check out what kelly mom says. I am hoping this is the case vs Milk.
