If you registered... when?

It's been asked possibly 100 times but I see so many newer names on here that I'm curious- if you registered when? Did you register after selecting an agency, after a certain period of time, upon matching, maybe bringing baby home? Or did you opt to purchase the basics yourself and call it a day?

Ohh.. and since we're on it: Shower, Welcome Baby, Nada, or Special Snowflake

Re: If you registered... when?

  • I have a wishlist going on Amazon right now, but that's mostly to help me remember what I want to buy or register for when the time comes.

I think we'll probably plan on registering (and accepting offers of shower) after we are homestudy approved, but before we're matched.  We plan on purchasing the important stuff ourselves (furniture, car seat, stroller, cloth diapers, some basic clothing items, etc.), but I've already had people ask me about whether or not we would like to have a shower, so I anticipate we will have at least one.

Of course we may change our minds about all of this, but as of now (while we're gathering HS paper work, etc.), this is our plan.

  • We bought the basic items ourselves but did register after matching with BM and feeling very confident that she was going to place.

  • We have an emergency registry... One that we can hand off a credit card and a list of items to my parents that they can purchase should we need to travel for a baby.

Otherwise? We're not doing a real registry until 30 days after the birth- ie. finalization of TPR.

  • We purchased a lot before LO was born. Way more than we actually needed for that first month.

We registered after being matched. A few close friends/family bought us things before bringing LO home, but the majority of the items were purchased for our showers, which ended up happening about a month after LO was born.

  • We registered at Babies R Us and Target. We bought our must haves now: Crib, stuff we need for the hospital, pack n play, etc. We will have one small shower with close friends before, and a couple after the baby comes with family and friends from my home town.

  • My friend registered us on on Buy Buy Baby one day when you were lounging on her couch...she has had two kids and put on her "must haves."  Once we are matched or closer to when the baby is born I will go on and update it.  I live 3 min from Buy Buy Baby(dangerous) so I can go in at anytime.

I am leaning more and more toward a Welcome Baby "Blank" Bash instead of a shower.  I feel like why not have a fun ass bash while we are at it spending so much money lol.  Especially if it is in the summer I def want to do it this way..have a huge backyard party and maybe hire a band to play..have a bonfire, BBQ, drinks!  I would probably do this a few weeks after coming home.  I feel like it would be a great excuse to have everyone over women and men and just have a fun party while people also meet our new little one.

7/18/12-1st RE appointment CD2 blood work taken. Told to move straight to IVF. Starting BC pills and FSH injections plus Lupron. Hopefully doing ET in September Off BCP March 2011 Started TTC July 2011 7 months TTC with no luck an then.... Diagnosed 2/24/12 with 2 Ovarian Cysts. 3/22/12-Lap to remove cysts, look for endo, and see if tubes are clear. 3/22/12-Diagnosed with Severe Endo(tubes are clear). 4/4/12-Post op OBGYN appointment. Told chances of conceiving naturally are very low, but told conceiving in the next few months is our best chance due to being cleaned out during Lap. Referred to a RE. RE said IVF is our only chance to get pregnant. Told only a 20% chance even with two put in. 9/5-Lupron 9/20 Stims(Menopur & Follistim) 9/30 Trigger time 10/2 ER 10/3 fert report-out of 7 eggs retrieved only 2 fertilized. Hello "Thing 1 and Thing 2!" Kinda sad there is none to freeze. Because only 2 we will have 2DT to get them back into a natural envionment 10/4 ET. Found out that only 1 divided. We love you "Thing 2." Thing 1 is now snuggled inside me and we are praying it will be our take home baby! **Did not even make it to my beta, the day before on 10/16/12 I got my F'in period** Such a stab in the heart. Nov 2012-Moving onto domestic newborn adoption! Can't wait for my take home baby. We will try IVF again after 1-2 years of a clear head. Need a break from infertility treatments/issues for my mental sanity! image
  • I started an amazon wishlist very early, but didn't make it public until our profile went active.

We had a post-baby shower when DD was 7 weeks. Just like a regular shower, just with the baby there.

  • We registered last week. We haven't really told anyone about it yet, and will wait to do so until we're officially matched (which could come as soon as this week with 2 different situations).

Honestly, even though we've already gone through one failed match in December, I think we'll probably have a shower after we're matched at some point. I've got a  family and some coworkers who REALLY want to throw us a shower. Given the upfront cost that everything has been for the adoption already, the idea of having to spend a ton more money just to outfit the nursery and such is kinda overwhelming. We know we'll be parents at some point, and it sounds like not too long from now, so we're just gonna go with it. People have been very understanding of the process so they know there's always potential for the BMs to change their minds.

Evan James was born 1/24/13 and matched with us 2/20/13. The LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!
  • We didn't register nor did we have a shower/party.  I always envisioned a welcome home party, but that wasn't what was best for the boys.  They needed to be introduced to our family and friends slowly and in small groups over time.  Since we adopted older kids, it never mattered, because all we really needed was clothes and a few toys.  Our friends and family were very generous, and all showered the boys with gifts when they met them anyway.
  • DH and I are pursuing becoming foster parents. I have briefly thought about showers but don't have an answer on that one. We are planning to buy the essentials ourselves (furniture, car seats, etc) but are waiting until our first home study to do so. I would consider registering/having a shower after that depending on how our family & friends seem to feel about the whole thing. Right now the few people we have told are on board with the idea of foster care, but you never know.
  • We bought the basics ourselves.

We started a registry after we went active with our agency, updated with more specifics after our match.

I was thrown a baby shower when DD was about 2 weeks old.

I became a mother because of adoption. She is the absolute love of my life. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker formerly known as sw_in_kc
  • Shower in May!  Big Smile  Hoping to have it after home study but before match.  We are registering now, and my mom and dad bought us a crib.

ETA:  We are mid-home study and have already chosen our agencies.

Moving forward with domestic infant adoption!

Home study approved 5/13, now just waiting...

  • We had several essential items purchased even before we were matched because we were paranoid that we would get matched and have very little time to get what we needed.  When we finally were matched and found out that we had a month before LO was due, we went ahead and did a registry at that point.
