   First, Hannah's newborn pic is so stinking cute!!Now down to business.   1) how much did it bleed? and for how long?It didn't bleed at all, they cauterized it so the appearance was white under her tongue where it was cut. Make sure they show you how to move her tongue to ensure it doesn't reattach (for J's I had to sweep my finger under her tongue prior to each feeding. I know it hurt her because she screamed each time I did it). 2) how upsetting did you find it? and how much did your baby cry?It was upsetting, but they wouldn't let me in the room. The nurse came and got her and the doc brought her back. I could hear her scream, so I went to the bathroom. I told myself it was the only way she was going to bf and that was the long term best thing I could do for her.  3) how long do you need to wait to breastfeed?They encourage you to breast feed right there in the office after the procedure. Her tongue will be numb from the procedure and many babies will latch and feed correctly right away. In our situation the doc was running an hour late and our appointment was 4:45, they were all pretty anxious to shoo us out so they could go home. When we got home, she still wouldn't latch so the LC had her use the nipple shield.  I noticed it wasn't until 3w later (at 5w) that I saw her lifting and sticking out her tongue. I also think J's tie was not the typical one and she hadn't been able to latch prior to the procedure.  We just kicked the nipple shield Thursday and she is finally feeding on the breast!! So don't get discouraged if you don't get it to work right away. Post procedure she may be fussy when the numbing agent wears off. Baby Tylenol is appropriate, and will make her feel better.  You are doing the right thing!  Some tongue ties will hinder speech.
