Anyone on bedrest with high BP?

I go for my 36/38 week check up. I am almost positive they havemy due date off by 2 weeks - i know when this baby was conceived! My last 3 appointments my PB has been a little high - around 138 / 95 give or take. Just in the last few days I have started swelling in my feet. I work for an accounting firm as the tax admin, so I am trying my best to stay at my desk with my feet up. But today my BP just seems to be even higher. I have been taking it ever hour and this last one it was up to 140/98. I go to the doctor this evening - would you call now and let them know or just wait until this evening?

Just curious for those that were put on bedrest due to BP - how high was your BP? I am really curious if I am going to end up on bedrest this afternoon after my appointment.

Look out baby #3 is on his/her way!

Re: Anyone on bedrest with high BP?

  • I was put on bedrest with an average bp of 140/100 last week.  At my last checkup yesterday, I was 136/84 but they said that it just means the bedrest is working and that it needs to continue through the rest of the pregnancy.

I would let them know just to be on the safe side. It can't hurt to give your doc a quick call.

     Good luck!

  • My blood pressure readings were 148/76 139/95 and 145/80 and I didn't get put on bed rest. I did the 24 hr urine collection and it came back that I had no protein in my urine... My doc actually told me the opposite, he told me to do some light exercise like walking and see if that helped. At my last apt it was 129/85 and he was happy with it. However I woke up today with a very puffy face, I have an appt tn so we will see if its high again or still ok! GL at ur apt! I hope all is well.

  • My BP at my 28wk appt was 148/90, the doc. put be on medicine and put me off work, he put me on Bed rest for a week to see what the med. did. it was right before Christmas so he said it could be a "Modified bed rest" then after my BP was well controlled with medication he said i did not have to do bed rest just to use common sense, lots of water, no stress (which meant no work) keep my feet up ( esp. in the afternoon and evenings) and to lay on my left side as much as possible. I'm 36 weeks and have been doing great with my BP. good luck!
  • I'm not on bedrest but I'm being monitored with NSTs 2x wkly for hbp. My bp has varied greatly over the past month. It's been roughly anywhere from 117/72 to 142/90. When it was around 140/90 twice at the Dr's office I started with the NSTs. I did the 24 hr urine collection and was told that I have mild pre-e b/c my protein just over 300 which is the cut off. If you're above you have pre-e. Ihaven't really had any swelling or headaches. I've been told to take my bp daily at home and if I have a reading over 150/90 to call the office. So far, that hasn't happened.

  • My blood pressure has started going on as of the last two weeks. Last week it was 148 over 90 but there was no protein in my urine. No mention of bed rest.

  • Thanks ladies for your input! I think I am probably going to be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if they have me do the 24 hour urine - uhh, I hate that!! I've actually done it 2 times so far this pregnancy and both times it was normal. But as much as I hate do it again, I have also see the repercussions of pre-e. Both of my sil's had Pre-e really bad - one ended up with a heart condition postpartum and the other had it and actually had seizures before delivering (both VERY scary!) I just want to do what's best so I don't get put in either of those situations.

GL to all of you as well. I will let you know how the appointment this afternoon goes! As stirr crazy as I may go on bed rest, since I'm in beginning of tax season, it might be better for me to be home resting!

  • I was hospitalized and then sent home on bed rest with my BP around 150/90 ish. Bed rest has kept it down, until yesterday it was 139/84 at my check up. I think it depends on your Dr and how comfortable they are with you being up or not.
  • I don't know what it was when they put me on bed rest, but I am on medication now and average 140s over high 80s.  I have lots of swelling in my feet and hypersensitive reflexes.  For the past 3 weeks, I've just been resting and keeping an eye out for worsening or new symptoms relegated to preeclampsia.
