Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Baby hates daycare... Anyone else?

My LO is now halfway through her second week of daycare and still cries most of the time she is there... I feel terrible!  Anyone else have a baby like this?  Any experienced mamas know how long it may take for her to get used to it?  (If you're mobile bumping, she's 10 weeks old).

Re: Baby hates daycare... Anyone else?

  • It takes new babies time to adjust. My DD started daycare at 4 months and transitioned great, but she was an easy going baby. Littler babies have more needs. They like being held, needs lots of changes, feedings, and attention. A normal daycare cannot provide these things all the time. So there will be a bit of crying involved until your LO gets used to the change and your DCP finds ways of soothing and calming your LO. They have to normally divide their attention between multiple babies, higher needs babies have a harder time adjusting. It will happen soon.

  • I have been there! My FB was in daycare since she was 2 months old, and I actually got to work in her daycare for a few months. It really depends on the child on how long it takes for them to adjust, and it takes a little for the teacher's to get into the swing of your child's preferences on everything from feeding to sleeping to diaper changes. My LO took about a month to not scream all day for her teacher's, but I have seen kids take to it within the first day, and in some cases almost 4 months before it got easier (but that was an older baby, 10 months old) Just hang in there, it'll get better for everyone!
