Started solids at 6 months?

Did you start solids at 6 months? Are you still feeding rice cereal or oatmeal? How frequently?  What veggies/fruits?  How often each day?  We started rice cereal at 6 months and have moved to oatmeal.  We're doing oatmeal twice a day and veggies once a day (waiting on fruit until we've done all veggies). Just wanted to compare what others are doing to see if we are moving too slow. Thanks :)

We started solids at 4 months and DS is almost 7.5mths old June 28th bday and now gets 3 meals a day. In the morning he gets oatmeal mixed with a fruit he is bf still so he needs the iron in the oatmeal. Midday he gets yogurt lately as he has been on antibiotics so the probiotics are helpful, and then at night he gets some sort of veggie and/or fruit pure. We also give him puffs, yogurt melts, and mummums as a snack to play with and get use to feeding himself

This is pretty much us too except we just do 2 meals a day...no lunch. We will add lunch when he turns 1. BM...or Formula if that's what you're using...should still be the main sorce of nutrition.

  • We started solids at 6 months. DD is 7.5 months now and has 2 meals a day. Mornings she has 1oz to 2oz of cereal with 2 oz of fruit. Dinner she has 1oz of meat and abut 2oz of veggies. She has had a wide variety of foods but so far no dairy and no eggs. I will start those about 8.5-9 months. We wont start lunch for a while. She isn't a great eater and only drinks about 25oz of formula so until that increases or she gets closer to 1 year, we will keep it about the same. We offer mashed food as well as well cooked small pieces for her to feed herself.

  • We waited until 6 months and started with oatmeal and a little bit of mashed banana. Since then though, we've progressed pretty fast. DS eats pretty much whatever we're having for dinner (within reason, no pizza!). He has oatmeal and mashed banana or fruit puree for breakfast, some sort of starch and vegetable for lunch and our dinner whizzed up in the mini processor. He's had spaghetti, tuna noodle casserole and roast chicken with potatoes and carrots. So far he loves it all!

  • Forgot to say, he's also had well-cooked egg, grated cheese and whole milk yogurt. Bits of toast with mashed vegetarian baked beans are also a favorite.

  • We started at 6 months with baby led weaning. We dove right into offering something off our plates at every meal. We had him in the high chair with a spoon to play with for a few weeks before handing him some of our food. He loves steamed or roasted veggies of all sorts and enjoys sucking on some of whatever meat we're having. We sometimes have eggs and fruit for breakfast and while he's not really interested in the eggs, he loves oranges and pears.

Tonight he'll get beef stir fry with bok choy and kale. I just have to hold back on how much soy sauce I use to keep the sodium down.

  • We started at six months and skipped the pur?es and went right to finger foods (baby led solids).

  • We started at six months but skipped cereal and went to purees, which DS hated at first. DH and I started offering him little bits of whatever we were eating, and my mom (who watches him during the day) kept offering the purees. She regularly offers him pureed peaches, pears, peas, sweet potatoes, green beans, prunes, and bananas, and he likes it all except for the peas. As far as table food, he's gotten little bits of lasagna, and at a party was diving for DH's nachos and my pizza (hilarious). He also loves kiwis and cantaloupe, and devoured my MIL's lamb stew which she mashed up for him.
  • We started DS on oatmeal at 4.5 months. He didn't really start liking it until we started to mix in a little fruit with the oatmeal and bm. We still offer it daily, but he is rarely interested anymore.

He loves the happy baby pouches of pureed fruit/veggie and he holds them and slurps out of the pouch.

He is most interested in what we are eating. I give him almost everything I eat, as long as it isn't junk or a choking hazard.

I try to do two meals a day and snacks. He is a bad eater all around most days, food and breastmilk, because he is very distracted with crawling, playing and paying attention to everyone else and what they are doing. He makes up for this with 3 nursing sessions throughout the night.

    Now we have everything.

  • We started solids at six months.  We skipped the cereals and moved straight to purees.  She eats fruits/veggies twice a day.  They have started an afternoon "snack" of puffs at daycare.

  • We started oatmeal cereal at about 6 months.. tried a bit before that but she had no interest.  She gets meals about twice a day in addition to nursing 6-8 times a day.  Mostly fruit and veggie purees for now.  We're not that great about doing it as our meals are pretty scattered (one of us working nights, one days) but she at least gets a helping of 2oz or so of puree and probably 2-3 oz of cereal.  I did give her her first mum mum today and she seemed to like it.  Made a mess with it though.  No mess my arse.
