Trying to Get Pregnant

What prenatal vitamins are you taking?

I took the Target brand Up and Up prenatals with my son. However since then I have been doing some research and they have a lot of food dyes in them. I know there are some studies connecting dyes to anything from cancer to ADHD.

Anyways, it seems like most vitamins have food coloring in them. What brand are you taking? Anyone asked there doctor about this?

Re: What prenatal vitamins are you taking?

  • I take the Walgreens brand with DHA. It comes in two different bottles but in one box. The pharmacist said its the most folic acid dosage you can get outside of a script.

  • I like Vita Fusion Pre-Natal Gummy Vitamins. I look forward to my two gummies every day!

I'll take my chances with the food dyes.

Would you mind telling me how much folic acid is in them? I need to make sure I get as much as possible because I had a placental abruption with my son. I've read increased folic acid helps.

This! They are so good and don't make me sick like the ones you swallow do. The also have DHA in them.

You can buy folic acid vitamins to take in addition to your prenatal vitamins.

  • Another vote for the Vitafusion gummies here. They actually use vegetable/fruit juice as coloring, so they're pretty natural. Target Up & Up makes a generic version which is the same. They contain DHA which I like, but no iron, so you'd have to take a separate supplement for that if you need it.

  • Another vitafusion gummies addict here.  FYI - they don't have iron, which is why they don't upset your stomach.

  • I love the CVS brand prenatals because the store often has them BOGO and I like me a good bargain.

  • I have been taking Walgreens Prenatal and have no issues with it. Once I run out of the bottle I will either start the Walgreens with DHA, or my doctor gave me a prescription for prenatals I really enjoyed but they're a little more spendy.
  • I take the One-a-Day prenatals. It comes with two pills though. The second one is an omega-3 fish oil pill. I took them when I was pegnant with my daughter and she turned out perfectly healthy.

When I was pregnant though, I had to take them right before bed with a glass of milk so that the nausea wouldn't bother me.

  • What's the difference between prescription and over the counter.  My gf just got a prescription and she says I should ask for one.  Does anyone know anything about the Trader Joe's brand?

  • I take Sisu. My naturopath said any brand was fine but she strongly suggested capsule form, and those were the only capsules I could find in the area.

  • I take Spring Valley PNV from Walmart. The only thing my doctor said about PNV was that I needed to get them with at least 800mg of folic acid.

  • The CVS version of the Vitafusion Gummies.

  • I take a store brand prenatal and as far as I know it works fine. We aren't TTC until August anyway but I wanted to start it up now.  I take it with food so that it doesn't upset my stomach, but if I have lots of MS when pregnant I'll probably switch to gummies.

The food dye seems like it wouldn't be an issue for a vitamin, since you're only taking one or two daily.
