"Baby safe" cleaners and products - must have/waste of $

So I have had a few people recommend getting Dapple or Babyganics cleaners.   What is needed???   I mean there are toy wipes and counter top wipes and dish detergent and hand soap and laundry detergent and hand sanitizer and pacifier wipes....the list goes on.     What ones do I really NEED?   Are all the wipes the same, just marketed differently?

I'll take any opinions, tips, money saving recommendations, etc... I probably won't go so far to make my own cleaners (though who knows), but if using a "regular" brand for something is fine I would like to know. Obviously my babies health and safety and #1, but I'm thinking getting all of the above is overkill.

Thanks in advance!

ETA:  Though finances are a concern (like everyone) it's not a major concern.   If someone said yes buy it all and only use dapple, we could afford that.    I'm just curious if it's needed or if I can cut some costs there and just buy more common brands of fragrance free or whatever for the baby.

  • I use the free and clear of Dawn. Dapple is expensive. If you are truly worried then boiling water and white vinegar are just as good for disinfecting.

  • I tend to think all those special baby cleaners are a bit of scam.  We currently use Seventh Generation dish soap and detergent (you can get it at Target) and will continue to use that for general cleaning once the baby is here.  I also use vinegar.
  • Most daycares use a bleach sanitizing solution if that tells you anything :)

We use a Mrs Meyers cleaner on everything, mostly bc I like the smell. I've never worried about which brand of dish soap.

If I was concerned about it being more natural, I'd go with vinegar and water, or maybe investigate brands like Shaklee, but I'm not sure I buy that the "baby" cleaners are really any safer than the grocery store brand ones!

  • I like a lot of Seventh Generation products but there are others out there. Also you'd be surprised what things like vinegar and baking soda will clean plus it's super cheap and healthy. Just google cleaning tips...there are websites and books about natural cleaning. I try to avoid using harsh chemicals around the house and definitely on products for DS. We can absorb a lot through our skin.

  • Dr. Bronners is the most magical thing in the entire world. I use it for EVERYTHING sans dish soap because my water is really hard.
