im a ftm, with a daughter who just turned four months old last friday. well, my husband has a work convention coming up in june in CA- we live in ohio so, flying would be our choice of travel- our daughter will be 8 months by that time. SO my question is, ladies with an 8 month old, would you recommend that as an okay age to fly (being on a plane for hours, plus airport plus all that jazz)? or is it to soon? i think 8 months seems reasonable but, my husband has some reservations about it. neither of us know the answer so, if you guys could throw some advice my way, that'd be awesome! thanks ladies!
Re: 6-9 month mommies, give a 3-6 monther some advice
As a mom of 7 month old twins I will tell you that it's perfectly fine. We traveled with them at 3 months and 5 and a half months. They did great. Make sure you have food for her for take off and landing. The sucking motion helps the pressure. If you plan it really well...feed her before take off. Mine fell right to sleep when we did that and slept through both take off and landing.
We live in Houston and have been to Orlando and NJ so the flights were 2.5 hours and up to 4 hours for the flight back to Houston from NJ.
I'm sure she will do just fine.
I would do it. Way easier to travel with a baby than a toddler. The only thing is, if your flight is pretty long, I would look into buying a seat for baby (and then strapping the carseat into the plane's seat). That way you don't have to hold onto DD for x amount of hours.
Pack light or check your bags. When we flew (and it was only with DD1 right before she turned 2), we got one free bag checked and did the rest carry on. I wish we would have just spent the extra money and checked a second bag or packed lighter. We had our hands full trying to carry DD1 (second mistake was not bringing a stroller for the airport), 2 carry on bags, my purse and a diaper bag.
Goodbye little angel(7/22/2011)....see you in heaven
Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
Go for it! We've already flown with DD2 at 4 months and 5 months, and she was great.
I second the recommendation to check bags and bring a stroller for the airport-LO will get heavy!
I also make sure to change him right before getting on the airplane. My goal is to not have to change him when we're on the airplane. It doesn't always work out that way, but I prefer to at least maximize my chances of not having to do so.
