NBR: Valentine's Day

DH got a little huffy this weekend b/c I was explaining to him that Valentine's Day is stupid (to me). I think it's a waste of money and always feels fake - and while he agrees with those things, he thinks he will be judged harshly by other women because he doesn't do anything for me on that day (by my request). I've talked to my friends at the office and they agree with me - but I figure they're my friends and we're probably like-minded, so I wanted to throw is out there for you ladies. Valentine's Day - love it or leave it?

Edit: If you love it, I think that's awesome too. It's just that it's not for me (I've never really been a romantic - just very, very pragmatic).

I don't really celebrate either. Sometimes we do silly cards, but no real celebration.

We occasionally get eachother a card or do something free that's sweet, but it's nbd. We will do things for our kids and for grandparents from the kids.

DH usually gets me flowers, but he gets me flowers just for the heck of it on random days too. I will usually make a nice dinner, but that is the extent of our celebration.

Yes - exactly! I like flowers - but "random days" flowers! I love it even more when he's at the grocery store and buys me a frozen bean burrito (he knows I LOVE those). It's just nice to know he's thinking of me and wants to treat me. I am so easy... don't get me jewerlry or furs, get me a Little Juan's Bean Burrito and you can have your way with me. Big Smile

I'm with you. I much prefer the random acts of affection throughout the year, like slipping a piece of chocolate into my lunch he packs me for work, or buying my favorite flowers when they are in season and then plucking out one to put in a vase on my nightstand. So sweet.

He usually gets me a funny card and last year got me flowers "from DS" but that's enough for me.

We don't make it a big thing, but we do have dinner at our friend's restaurant, where we don't have to put up with the bs because they know us, and we get each other cards. The flowers and chocolate are cliche, IMO, and neither of us really like chocolate anyway. I much prefer the everyday signs of love.

We aren't overly romantic to begin with (though sometimes I wish we were a little more) so we usually just go out to dinner, nothing special. I always get him a card though.

We don't celebrate it. Technically I did get him a gift this year though. We didn't exchange Christmas gifts this year because money was tight then I found a great deal on 1 year Xbox live membership in January. Since he has wanted one for awhile, but will never buy it for himself, I figured I'd call it a V-day gift. I can't wait to surprise him with it on Thursday.

I told DH years ago to stop getting me flowers since they are so expensive and a complete waste of money. He did get me an orchid plant about four years ago and we still have it.

We don't do cards anymore. I would still go for any sweets, anytime!
