Frustrated!!

So for a while now I have been having braxton hicks contractions.  Which I know is normal.  I have also had problems with my blood pressure just randomly spiking up.  Doctor has checked my urine for protein several times and it is always good.  Lately it seems like I have been getting the braxton hicks contractions more often.  My doctor said if I have more than 12 in an hour I should call.  Lately I have been having more than 12 and they have been occuring every 2-4 minutes.  Obviously when I sit down and relax they slow down but still occur, and I don't always have the luxury to sit and relax.  When I called my doctors office yesterday they almost sounded annoyed with me which frustrated me even more.  I can't stand my doctor anymore but it's a little late in the game to change now, I am 33 weeks.  I am pretty much to the point when I have things going on I don't even call the doctor anymore cause I don't want to bother anyone with my issues.  Should I be concerned about the braxton hicks???  Especially since they were timeable??

Re: Frustrated!!

  • Seriously screw them! This makes me so mad! It is not your problem if they are having a bad day or bad job. You call them for anything you feel necessary and they can deal with it cause that is there job! Have you ever tried a midwife experience? I would never go to anyone else. They are all women, usually experienced mothers, and so compassionate as if YOU are the baby. OB docs will never be considered in my pregnancies!

  • This really ticks me off too! They get paid very well for pregnancies, trust me and you don't deserve to be made to feel that way. And for what it's worth what my dr has told me contradicts what yours says. He has told me that if I experience any timetable form of a contraction 6 times or more in an hour I am to go to LD if its before 37 weeks. Now, I'm high risk so that might be why... But I believe it's because he's a good dr.

  • Thank you ladies!!  My doctor contradicts herself!!  One time she said if I have more than 4 in an hour, then it went to 6, now 12.  The other day I was having them every 2-4 min for 2 1/2 hours and when I called they said to sit and relax and if they continue to come in.  I sat and they didn't quit but they slowed down.  Then yesterday they were every 2-4 min again and my blood pressure went up.  When I called they said the doctor said that I should  probably make an appointment this week but that I could still go to work, I'm not sure they understand what I do for work!  And at work I was having them every 2 min for a while.  I didn't bother to even call the on call regarding them.  I almost feel  like I am just being paranoid and overreacting!  I really can't stand my doctor and after this pregnancy I will not be going back to her!!

  • I don't know about you, but I go to an office where there are a ton of doctors available.  I see my primary doctor and sometimes a resident, but I always have the option to choose somebody else.  I would consider changing this late in the game, because of all the times you want somebody who communicates with you well, it would be towards the end!

For what it's worth, I also have a fair amount of BH contractions, and as soon as they ramp up to more than 6 an hour, I lay down (or recline as much as possible), drink 16 oz of water and wait for a bit.  Then I'll drink more if necessary (drinking too much also causes BH for me, so it's a fine line).  Then I'll take procardia.  My doctor says anything beyond 2 loading doses of procardia and 1.5 hours of contractions is reason to go into L&D.

  • If I were you, I'd tell your OB to pound sand and go to LD at the hospital, if your insurance covers the cost. They will do a thorough check up of you and set your mind to rest. If you leave it up to your OB you'll probably have your baby at work and she'd tell you to just to sit and relax! Ridiculous!

  • I just got back from my 36 week appointment, where I told me DR that I get a BH every time I use any stomach muscles, yawn, or stretch. She told me to just stay hydrated and not worry unless they start getting painful.  She said as long as you can ignore them, then they are just practice contractions, and not to worry. She wasn't worried about how frequently they were coming, especially since I could correlate them to my actual movements.

I'm surprised your DR hasn't done a better job of calming you down - especially if they are not painful contractions.

Too funny...but you are soooo right!!  Oh trust me before I even call my doctors office anymore I make sure I have drank plenty of water and am hydrated.  No they are not painful but they are sure uncomfortable which sucks when I need to be up and moving at work with all this going on.  I am a FTM and just want to make sure everything is ok...would rather be too safe than sorry!

  • If they slow down when you sit down, you probably shouldn't worry too much. If they stay timeable and nothing stops them, then I would just go to L & D. Your OB sounds awful!!

  • This gets on my nerves too. At the end of every appointment they tell me to please call if I have any symptoms that concern me. The few times I have, they just get annoyed and try to blow me off with some generic answer. I'm just doing what they told me to do.
