Oh my it has been a long Sunday now going on Tuesday.
Well it was L's first time staying overnight at someone else's home. L stayed with our friends whom are like family. Dropped him off Sunday at 8pm and then got home at 11ish stayed up till about 12am then hit the hay.
Nice to have uninterrupted sleep LOL but it didn't last long.
DH's appt. was at 5:45am. Got up at 3:30am then had to wash DH with this special wash on the area where he would be worked on.
Got to the VA checked in. Then they swabbed his nose, then took 4 vials of blood, iv, signed his life away and then took my beloved away for surgery.
I waited and waited then was like mmmm pancakes lol. Went to the mess hall and had me a whole nice breakfast. So weird to be alone and eat.
I was looking at some pictures I took and found a video DH made me and for L. It was him telling us he loved and if anything happened to know he was watching over us. I was bawling my eyes out.
So sweet and scary/sad at the same time.
When I was done in the mess hall went back to the waiting room and looked at the tv that is like the departure times in the airport but this is for the surgery's. Would be 6hrs! I kept myself busy. Did word puzzles, clipped coupons, read, updates and text family/friends. The time flew and soon enough I looked at the tv chart and DH was done.
Finally the Dr came and he is a wonderful Dr, This Dr has been doing spinal fusions since before I was born. Everything went well and smoothly minus DH trying to fight the nurses when they woke him.
Waited another 30mins and finally I saw DH be rolled out. I quickly went over and kissed him and his expression was Happy but in very much pain.
Let the nurses or I should say murses since they where males get him settled in his room and new bed.
DH has two blood drains, catheter, iv, these things on his legs to create circulation I believe. Just poor guy. Eyes are all poofy, throat all hurt from the breathing tube, busted lip from the tape. Plus the pain. Although he has his morphine button. So that does help.
Overall ladies he is doing quite well IMO. I just let him sleep and then just took care of him while I was there.
The nurses and doctors have been great so far and he should be there about a week if not longer. It just depends on his recovery.
I also brought the nurses some boxed chocolate to thank them. I think tomorrow I will bring them a barrel of pretzels.
I just want to say Thank you to all of you who said a little prayer or just who sent their kind words/T&P's. Means alot to me.
Now here is a HUGE Cookie
if you read this all. Sorry for any typos but I am beat.
Night ladies.
Re: Update on my DH's surgery
So glad that he is doing well! I'm also glad that he has a good staff watching out for him - I had an idiot nurse after my surgery...I won't go into that. Having good nurses means that you can relax a bit, knowing that they will do their job.
T&Ps for his continued good recovery!
LOL
Did very well. Then while I was waiting before his nap my GF said he began to whimper and go back and forth with her and her niece for love. I called him and he was just babbling lol so cute. Sang some rhymes to him and talked for about 10mins and when I said give me kiss my GF said he kissed the phone. When I picked him up after 8pm he held on and was not letting go lol. I am very happy to have my baby bear back.
I loved the part of your story about the pancakes and video. Cuteness.
Spinal fusions are hard surgeries. My grandpa had several, my MIL had one about two years ago, and my boss lady at the Pilates studio had one since I've worked there.
GL on helping him recover!! If he does Pilates Reformer once he's healed and approved to exercise he will feel a ton better.
Thank you so much for the update Duff.
And now you have me crying, too. So sweet of your H.
Aw man - It's so hard to see them that way, isn't it? Our big, tough guys, suddenly all weak and beaten up. I hope Mr Duff recovers quickly. Do you have any idea when you will be able to take him home?
Was really hard to leave him. We felt like we forgot something when we left.
DH before the surgery was like oh I will be here 3days pffft lol...I was speaking with his nurse and he was like nope he should be here about a week but it really all depends on his mobility.
Will definitely keep you all posted. Also thanks for the tip on pilates reformer. Will definitely tell DH and encourage it.
Your family and friends who had the surgery...did they feel a difference?
Awwww awesome
thanks. YGPM.
I am so happy to hear that he's doing well. You keep us posted, K?
We'll be thinking of you guys!!
It is very hard! I didn't want to leave him but like he said our bear needs me. Plus he wants me as well as I do be with Logan
The nurse said he should be there about a week but it all really depends on his mobility and the way he recovers. So I am hoping he does well.
Glad the surgery is over and went well!
Here is to a speedy recovery!
I'll be thinking about you Duff.
They all saw a huge difference!! It took 6 months or so, but yes, great improvement.
