"I'm glad we are doing this"

Said DH last night in regards to our 30-minute challenge (taking 30 minutes every night to just tidy up and/or prep the next day's dinner).

That's right. My husband said he was glad to be cleaning and cooking. And he wasn't drunk or anything. lol

  • LOL

I'm sure he meant spending quality time together.  But you can rib him about liking to cook and clean because it's funnier that way.  =D

  • That's so cute!

I was telling my BFF recently how much I admire her as a working mom.  She told me that her and her husband would not survive if they don't spend 30 minutes every night straightening up!  Their kids are home all day (her parents come to their place to watch them) so the house is usually a disaster zone of toys when they get home from work :)

  • That's awesome that you do it together. I've always intended to do something like that (at least for cleaning since DH does a lot of the cooking), but I usually forget until I really need to be in bed.

It's kind of a survival thing, really. I have about 45 minutes when I get off work to pick up the girls from DC and get dinner ready. In the winter time, picking them up can take up to 30 minutes, so that leaves me with about 15 minutes to cook dinner. So really, I just can't afford to come home to a messy kitchen.

I try to do as much as I can when I come home for lunch, and while that helps, it usually doesn't quite cut it. Plus I get pissy because I feel it's unfair that I spend my lunch hour cooking and cleaning while DH gets to just enjoy his hour off. With this 30-minute challenge, I don't feel like I'm stuck with the short end of the stick so much.

I kid you not, he meant the cleaning. I think he is finally beginning to appreciate having a clean home - I'm sure the quality time together didn't hurt either, though

  • Very cool! I love that you are taking time out of your day for your relationship! And on the bonus side you get to be a little more sane! ;)

  • Lol! I'm so glad it's working out for you all!!!

I wish I could get my DH in on something like this!

He's usually working at night anyway though. Oh well.

I really, really wish my husband wasn't content to live in a dirty hovel.  He'll clean when it gets to the point where he thinks it's "necessary".  Which is about a week after I'd give up entirely and set the whole house on fire.

We have been making an effort to spend more time together though.  But I'm jealous that your time is productive.  Ours is usually spent complaining about work or having nonsensical ridiculous conversations about nothing.  Or boning. I guess that's productive.

Don't be too jealous: it took me 12 years to get him to appreciate a clean home. This was a loooong time coming.  The great thing about cleaning together is that we get to complain about work and have those ridiculous conversations while we do it. I guess we're multi-tasking? Boning comes as a bonus after we're done :D
