So you'd think I'd have a clue since this is my second, but her sleep habits are way different than my first's. DD1 did have a little bit of an issue with naps, but she straightened them out herself by the time she was her sister's age. Here's the issue:
DD2 wasn't sleeping very good at night and her naps were a mess, so we decided to Ferber. She started sleeping really well at night and only waking up once to eat around 3-4am, then going back to sleep til 7am. Her naps seemed to be getting on track and she was taking 2 consistent naps with an occasional late afternoon catnap, which I am ok with. Now what she seems to be doing is waking up at 6am and then is ready to go back to sleep an hour or so later, and instead of starting her nap at 9 or 10am, she is now starting it at 8 or 8:30. This wouldn't be an issue, but she's still taking those regular 2-3 naps that she was already taking! So now, some days she's taking 4 naps! I know that at 8-9 months that's way too many!
I referred back to the Ferber book and looked at the "naplet" problem, but his suggestions don't seem to be working. I have tried letting her fuss it out at 3 am...I've tried letting her fuss it out at 6am...changing her bedtime...stretching out awake time between naps...it seems to work for a couple days then goes back to the other way.
Am I missing something?? She started out as being such an easy-going baby, then around 5 months or so she went haywire. She hates solids, her sleep is all over the place...I'm starting to question my parenting skills! I do know that she recently had one of her top teeth poke thru and I'm waiting for the other one, I just hate chalking up every sleep problem to teething!
Here is a "typical" day (I say "typical" because it's the majority):
6am- wake-up and BF
6:30 or 7 (depending on when her sister wakes up) - breakfast (solids)
8- ready for nap #1
8:30 or 9- wakes up, BF
11 or 11:30- ready for nap #2
12:30 or 1pm- wake up, BF
2:30 or 3- nap #3
4 or 4:30- BF
(sometimes around 4:30 or 5 she wants a catnap)
5- dinner (solids)
6:15- bath
6:30- BF
6:45 or 7- bed for the night
3 or 4 am- wakes to BF
Re: Naps all over the place! Help!
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I've tried letting her lay in there for a while, then getting up and I've tried extending her wake-time, and she is a bear if I don't let her go back to sleep. Arghhhh, frustrating. She was doing so good, and now she's back to her old ways!
