Are all your rooms completed?

Painted, furniture, decorated, etc?

we moved into a new house last year and are still working on  things. It was a brand new house so a blank canvas. We have painted serveral rooms but still have no dining room furniture so that room is white and empty. We have pans to buy furniture but not for a few months. We also need bedroom furniture. We have a mattress and dressers from his grandparents which fit our old bedroom but now we have a bigger room so it looks pretty empty.  Like a college apt!!  I am so ready for grown up bedroom furniture

Re: Are all your rooms completed?

  • No.  We have a bedroom that is totally empty.  2 years later.  We were going to make it a guest room, but our office has a futon in it that has been our guest room so far.  We don't have a HUGE need for a guest room, so now we're rethinking what we might want to do w/ that room.  I 'm almost tempted to just keep it empty until DS gets older and let it eventually become his to use as either an office, hangout room, or... whatever.

    We'll see.

  • Right now, yes... but we will be doing a big switch this summer as we prep for #2. Guest room goes in our finished basement in a back room,  DS goes into former guest room (bigger than current room) and Peanut gets DS' old room.

  • we also moved into a brand new house 4 years ago, it will take a long time before you feel its "complete". all of our rooms are completed except for the basement. however it took forever. we finally got dining room furniture last year. and there are still things we want to do. we put up a fence and DH just built a deck last summer. I'd like to hardwood more floors and redo our master bath as it is all builders grade. i think homes are never ending projects unless you have unlimited resources.
  • No. Just about every rooms needs a lil something. But the 2 main rooms I really want done in next year or 2 or playroom & living room.....

  • We moved in 4 years ago and will likely be moving out in the next year. And nope, all our rooms are not completed. Our master bedroom is a disaster, and about to get more disastrous once LO#2 comes, since s/he will be sleeping in there for a while. DS's room could use some decorating for sure, but it looks okay as is. Same with our office. Our dining & living room are done and nice.
  • We bought a brand new house 3 years ago and we were immediately able to furnish the top 2 floors with existing/new furniture. We went from a 3 bdrm to a 3 bdrm, so we had the bedroom/office furniture. We also went from a 3 level condo to a 2 story w/ unfinished basement, so we actually got rid of some living room furniture. We also already had a kitchen table and chairs but soon replaced that with a new set. We do not have a separate/formal dining room or living room.

However, our yard and basement weren't done. Last fall we finally finished both, and the basement bedroom is sparsely furnished.

ETA: we also decorated with what art we already had. I'd like to work on decor in the future, but our house is as done as it needs to be.

  • Getting there. The house was built in April 2005 we just got around to switching out the knobs and hinges from the shiny brass to oiled bronze. P's room is always a work in progress but should be completed soon.

The spare room is just the office right now. Might talk H into putting a fouton in there but we really don't use the space much and we don't have guests.

We do plan on replacing the front door soon.

  • Almost.  We only have two areas of the house that aren't even close to how we want them--the front entry (no one uses the front door so it's not a priority) and our guest bedroom.  Everything else, while still a work in progress, is passable.  We bought our house 1.5 years ago.
  • They aren't completed because we have WAY too much furniture in all of them.  I think the living room and dining room look good but every other room we are going to have to take huge pieces of furniture out in order to list it for sale.  Our garage is full of furniture too.

  • No, but we only moved into our house just over 3 months ago. We have a long ways to go.

  • Ugh. No.

We moved into our new house 2 weeks before DS2 was born. 5 months later we're still kind of living out of boxes. No curtains either, which is driving me nuts, but it's such a huge decision I don't want to rush it.

We're starting a master bath reno soon which I'm super pumped about. However, we plan for a kitchen reno in about 5 years. It will affect our kitchen, dining room, bathrOom, and laundry room. As such, we don't want to spend TOO much money on curtains, furniture, and stuff to fit the area as it looks NOW.

It's so hard to prioritize. We need a bedroom set, we need curtains, the boys will need a shared big boy room in a few years, we'll hopefully need another nursery in a few years, etc. To do it all would cost thousands, but I hate feeling like our house isn't completed.

  • No, and some I can live with, others drive me nuts. When we moved in there was terrible floral print wallpaper in the bathroom. We scraped it off and the walls underneath are in terrible shape. We can't really afford to hire someone to re-drywall it and DH won't let me tile it. Also out office is a bright blue with sponge painted clouds...Tongue Tied. Which one day will be LO#2's room so it will be done at that time. Otherwise the house in good shape. We need to landscape badly and never did it last summer. That will be my big project for 2013.
  • I don't know what I would do with myself if I lived in a completed home. All our rooms are decorated and furnished but I am always changing things. Right now, most rooms are white and I like that look. But I know I will paint sometime. We are planning for a big kitchen redo in the next year. The backyard will also be getting a fence and I'm getting a new pretty front door that I have been wanting for some time.
