Re: GTKY: Best you ever had...

  • Vacation: OC, NJ a few years back! We rented a beach house with bikes and ate our way up and down the boardwalk.

Teachers: I have (3) My 2nd grade teacher Ms. H who was a funny-no nonsense kind of lady! She would explain things so clearly with organized lesson plans, and always question the students why we do not have questions... this stuck with me, to no matter what I understand! there is always something I missed--so ask lots of questions! She tells me a story of when I brought a text book up to her, and insisted my mom told me to read *this* book. Hmm? I see continuity in my personality!

Two profs: Dr. B and Dr. W! AMAZING. AMAZING scholars. A student of their own classroom. Each of them publishes reputable research, give back in their communities, never stop learning, and are outstanding parents. I hope some day to follow in their footsteps.

One of them tought me to not talk unless you know what you are talking about...the smartest person is one who admits they do not know everything.

the other tought me how important it is to maintain a healthy mind and to articulate boundaries. This prof also introduced me to yoga, and ayurvedic breathing and way of living.

Date: Hmmm? does making out in my old Mazda 626 and rolling down a mountain sound fun?

Meal: Easy. Juicy Lucy's Filet. crab legs, Jim Barry red wine, baked potato, and warm gooey brownie!

Present: A mini flip phone my junior year in highschool!

What is the best you have ever had of:

Vacation: honeymoon in Cancun. So so so awesome.

Teachers: Mrs. Vietre in Fifth Grade. One of our assignments was to write a novel and I have been writing ever since. My first published novel will be dedicated to her.

Date: I don't know if I've ever had a really awesome date. Some guys tried really hard but I wasn't feeling the guy. The guys I was feeling never had any money. :)  I guess the best was the night Tom and I went to a seafood resturaunt and had some awesome wine, and then went out to see a local band and saw our waitress from the restaurant there. It was just a really fun night and we really enjoyed each other.

Meal: The lobster and Mexican spread we had at a little back street restaurant in Cancun. It was amazing and we hung out with the owner and a mother and her adult daughter who had a vacation condo and knew the area. We all took tons of shots.

    Birthday present: My first guitar

  • What is the best you have ever had of:

Vacation: Haven't been on too many vacations...it's sad really. Haha

Teachers: This wonderful chemistry professor I had. He actually gave out his cell phone number to students. He worked so hard to make sure we would understand everything. He offered extra study sessions and was so dedicated.
The next semester we had a different professor for Chem 2 who was horrible and we were all struggling. Our old Chem 1 professor actually set up study sessions for that class and taught us more in those study sessions than the other prof did that whole semester. He was just so wonderful and truly cared for his students.

Date: When DH and I went to dinner and an Indians game. We stayed afterwards and watched the fireworks. He told me he loved me for the first time that night. It just was really special to me.

Meal: Honestly, it was this steak H made with toast and eggs when I had horrible morning sickness. It was in the first few weeks when I was really, really sick and living off of saltines. he made it for himself because I said I didn't want any. He offered a bite and I decided to try it and it stayed down! I ate his whole plate of food! It was so good and the fact it stayed down made it the best. That was the first full meal I had held down in weeks.

Birthday present: DH bought me a 3d ultrasound package to find out the sex of DS on my actual birthday. It was such an amazing and memorable experience. They knew it was my birthday so they gave us extra time, extra prints. and a DVD recording of the session for free!
We then went out to shop for cute little boy clothes and room decor.
It was such a nice day out that afterwards we went to get coffee and sat out on the patio. It was really one of the best days of my life(I know, I know, I'm lame)

  • Vacation: My honeymoon to the Bahamas

Teachers: I have two. My high school religion and social studies teacher is the first. I moved across the country three days before starting high school. It was a very hard transition for me. She was so kind and really helped me to survive high school. I still keep in touch with her. The second is a nursing professor I had in college and grad school. She is so smart and taught me so much about being a nurse. I credit her with being able to pass my boards and for helping me publish and get my Masters degree.

Date: I will say my first date with my husband. We talked for hours in Starbucks.

Meal: This is a hard one. I guess I will say the food at our wedding- it was fantastic.

Birthday present: Another hard one. DH is really good at getting gifts. I really can't think of one that I liked more than the others. But one that is really neat is a sapphire bracelet he got me the year before A was born. We didn't know we were going to have a Sept baby so the stones are even more significant to me now!

  • What is the best you have ever had of:

Vacation: I could honestly say the first we had as a family. We went to FL to visit my brother and we had an amezing time.

Teachers: From my BA in college I had very good ones. Mr. Morales teached one of the electives I took and he awas one of the proffesors that made a recomendation letter so I could get in in Law School.

Date: for our last anniversary H took me to a restaurant that serves only Puerto Rican food and it was ALL Puerto Rican and then we went for a walk around San Juan. It was simple but the difference was that all we noticed was us.

    Meal: PIZZA!!!!

  • Vacation:  9 days in Japan by myself (well, it was a tour group but I went alone)

Teachers:  My 4th grade teacher and my 6 and 8th grade math teacher (had her both grades).  They taught in a way that I was really able to focus and learn with.

Date:  No date really seems better, they were all usually dinner and movie

Meal:  Kobe steak at a restaurant in Oklahoma City.  I still drool over it and it was back in 2010.

Birthday present:  One year all I wanted was a white teddy bear.  I was probably 12 or 13.  For some reason that was all I wanted.  My dad got one for me.  I still have it and it is on my bed.

  • Vacation: Our Honeymoon. We went to Sybaris just outside of Chicago, then spent some time in the city. It's the only real vacation we have ever been on together.

Teachers: My 8th Grade American History teacher. He was amazing. On all of his tests he did an "E" multiple choice option that was always something off the wall involving the kids in the class. He knew who was dating who and what friends had become enemies, all the social workings of his kids. When my boyfriend at the time got expelled and I got suspended, he went out of his way to make sure I was ok academically and emotionally. He went on to be principal of the school a few years later.

Date: I would say the first date night we had after DS1 was born. It was a like a first date almost. It was a simple dinner, movie, drinks date, but it holds a place in my heart.

Meal: I have no idea, but it definately involved a fat steak.

Birthday present: Would have to be getting my Grandma's old car at 16.

  • What is the best you have ever had of:

    Vacation:

Honeymoon in Napa Valley.  Spring training in AZ is a close second but nothing beats touring wineries and fancy yummy dinners with your new husband all while staying in a very romantic bed and breakfast!

    Teachers:

English professor from college.  He was so interesting!

    Date:

     1st date with DH.

My previous "dates" were grabbing dinner with a guy I'd been seeing for a while.  But with DH, he actually asked me out on a date, this was a big deal.  And he took me to a non chain restaurant which was also a new thing for me.  It was such a grown up experience.  He picked me up, held doors for me, we ordered a drink at the bar while waiting for our table, etc.  We talked non stop the whole time.  He made me laugh, he looked me in the eye, he cared about what I had to say.  We were actually getting to know each other.  (I feel like previous dinners out with guys were just a way to kill time until we got drunk and has sex ...)

I just knew he was different right from the start.

    Meal:

Lobster risotto on the AZ trip previously mentioned.  Seriously, the best ever.  It was a hole in the wall restaurant in Scottsdale.

    Birthday present:

I got a new piano when I turned 13, that was a really big deal.
