Birthday Party Help

Help!  I'm drawing a blank.

DD is having TWO birthday parties this weekend (one with just our family on Saturday, one with all of our friends and their kids/families on Sunday).

There will be kids at both parties (3 years and younger are the ones I want to target so they don't destroy my house).  What can I do to occupy them?

I was thinking about setting up a couple of stations, but I also don't want some huge, crazy mess either (nothing that involves glitter, sand, etc).

I was thinking about doing a decorate your own cookie station (no sprinkles, but maybe mini m&m's, chocolate chips, candy hearts - things that could easily be swept up) maybe a playdough station and a finger painting station.  Anyone else have any good ideas or activities?!  Anything you've seen or done yourself that was a hit with toddlers?

Re: Birthday Party Help

  • I wish I could help!  We have not yet reached that stage, so I am at a loss.  I hope you get some great ideas & that the parties are a hit.  The ideas you mentioned sounded wonderful :) GL!

  • A think those are good ideas. Maybe a coloring station instead of finger paint if you want easy clean up. What about a dress up station?

My LO is much too small for me to have thought much about this, but those sound like really good ideas.  Depending on the part of the country you live in, maybe you could do something outside so there's less clean up.  Chalk drawing on the sidewalk or driveway maybe?

Oh, I just looked and you are in Milwaukee.  I am betting that is not outside weather right about now.  There goes my idea.  I love the cookie idea though!  I think that sounds super fun.

  • How about something with stickers? They have those chunky foam ones at craft stores that are easy for little kids.

  • Whatever happened to pin the tale on the donkey and dropping clothespins into milk bottles?

At one bday party I did a cupcake decorating table.  I also think a scavenger hunt is a fun idea - maybe something like pictures of places in your house and then have go find that and find a treat or little prize.

You could also send them outside to shovel ;-)  Or, build a snowman!

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Great ideas! Especially the shoveling one! ;)
