Pacifier at night...

So we moved the twins to their cribs 4 nights ago for bedtime. It hasn't been awful, but we're definitely not getting much sleep from 1am4:30am 4:30 is their only "night time" feeding. We keep playing the pacifier game, and they are winning! They each wake up about 23 times at different times of course crying. If we just go in there, put their paci back in their mouth and pat there chest for like 30 seconds, they go right back to sleep. I'm not having to pick them up or anything. I would let them cry it out a little to see if they could soothe themselves without their paci, but I don't want the one who's up to wake up the other!! Ahh!! Those that have gone through this, or are going through this, what did y'all do? I know we can't keep playing this up and down game. It's getting exhausting and I want them to sleep well again!!!! Should we put a crib in another room for the time being until they both work this out? That way the one thats up could cry for 510 min. I need suggestions!!! I need to know what worked for y'all!!!!!
Thanks!!!!

Re: Pacifier at night...

  • Yes! What helped me was buying the wub a nub pacifiers with the little beanie animal attached because they can find it/grab it. In the beginning I ran to them but then stopped and they stopped crying. With my daughter I put 2 in her crib so she can easily find one.

We have the Wubanubs as well. As soon as they start reaching/ grabbing, I think those will be fabulous. It's just right now they can't reach or grab. So did you let them cry it out a bit? Did they wake each other up when that happened?

  • Once of ours has been waking up a few times each night and the first few times we went in each time, picked him up, rocked him back to sleep, etc. But after a couple nights of that we just let him cry and surprisingly it took less than 5 minutes of fussing to go back to sleep each time.  They share a room and they seem to have gotten used to sleeping through the other one's crying (which is what I was hoping). If both wake up it is usually because it is close to their 4:30 feeding. We have also been doing sleep training to get them to bed so that could be part of the reason they have learned to sleep through the crying.

  • We are in a similar boat.Ours still sleep with us in our room and we put their pacis in.Once we move them and sleep train them, I think we will have to let them spit it out and not put it in.I am also worried about one waking the other.Which is why I am thinking of having them sleep train in different rooms.

  • I got to a point where I just said no more and stopped going in....they figured out how to grab those soothers pretty quick :) I have always kept the boys together and they sleep through each others crying no problem!
  • My daughter was a bonafide pacifier junkie so she learned pretty early on how to get that pacifier back in her mouth.  In the early days though we swaddled them with the wubanubs tucked into their swaddle so it would stay mostly by their mouth when it fell out.  I would also tease DD with her pacifier during the day so she could practice grabbing it and putting it back in her mouth.  DS turned out to be a thumb sucker around 4-5 months and refused the pacifier.
