So, last night SO and I went to a breastfeeding class. With my son I pumped, but eventually my milk ran out. I want to be more successful this time around. Our hospital is very breastfeeding friendly and even tries to do a lot of skin to skin. The evidence they presented about the benefits of skin to skin during the first hour of life were so convincing that it is making me change what I want after the baby is born despite my training. I really was able to see some awesome benefits to changing things up. If your hospital offers a breastfeeding class I highly recommend it. They gave us information and resources we can use once the baby is here and basically a foundation to start with. Just thought I would share.

Since yours a little bit away, look up skin to skin contact during the first hour. There should be some good information. Our hospital does skin to skin each time you breastfeed, which means I will have to limit visitors, but it does sound like something worth looking into. I never got the opportunity to actually breastfeed, just pump, but I feel overwhelmed and I am afraid that I am going to screw it up. They actually made us feel human and told us it will takes weeks to get it right. Maybe get some books too. I just want to give it the best shot I can.
This is key. Both you and your LO are learning how to make it work. I feel like a lot of women get frustrated that it's not working perfectly off the bat, but honestly, neither of you have done it before so it's bound to take a little time.
I love that hospitals are promoting skin to skin so much now
It seems so natural - I love it!!!

Ugh, that is a lot. I don't know where you live, buy maybe see if another hospital offers free classes. My hospital you can just sign up for it and there is no commitment to deliver there. LLL was also a resource they gave us locally. Good luck.
Mine is free if you take the labor and delivery classes...which we are. Does your hospital give you that option?

My breastfeeding class is also 40, even though we're taking labor/delivery class and new parent classes at the hospital. For me it's a non negotiable, I've had breast augmentation to correct slight tuberous breast deformity and I'm worried about my ability to breastfeed. It's something that I really want to do, but I know it might be an especially difficult process.
I had a weird breast feeding dream, too! These darn vitamins haha

I hope it works out better for you this time! I just want to give you some encouragement: my supply seems to taper off around 3-4 months and at that point I can rarely get anything just by pumping. My supply keeps up with what the boys eat, but I usually just pack up the pump then b/c there's nothing extra.
Also, every baby is different. It took me about 6 weeks to get all the kinks worked out with DS1. With DS2 I latched him on at birth and we were good to go.
Finally, my experience in the hospital with my second was completely different than with my first. They pretty much left us alone and I only saw an LC when I asked for one to stop by. With my first it seemed like we had nurses and LCs stopping by constantly. It was actually kind of nice not being bothered, but if your experience is similar don't be shy and just ring for help whenever you need it.
