Help! Suggestions for going out with Twins

Hi I was wondering if I could get some suggestions and opinions for taking my Twins out and about for the first time.  My B/G twins were born in December full term (37 weeks) and I finally feel somewhat comfortable going out and about with them (mall/target/etc). I feel like I have been way to cautious and don't want to miss out on being able to enjoy the outside world with these babies, especially since I think I just need to do it at this point!  We have been over to my friends house several times who has a 6month old and goes everywhere with her (she may even join me on some of my outings).  What do I have to get ready to make these first couple of trips easier.  I am EBFing on demand at this point (about every 2-2.5 hours). Thanks so much!

  • Just do it! Don't be discouraged if it's a disaster the first few times. You'll find something that works.

  • Just have a dribble cloth, their pacifiers hand sanitizers and blankets if you are in a cold area. I always make sure we are home to change and feed. Oh don't drink a lot of water bc I find it hard to go to the bathroom!
  • thanks for the suggestions, I think I have been paranoid because of the "flu" being such an issue but at some point you can't let fear dictate your life or they will never go out..There's always something out there for them to catch.  Surprise
  • Exactly. Be cautious but don't keep the 3 of you in a sterile bubble. Just sanitize before picking them up or touching them! Also, it's easier to go out when you're EBFing. If you don't like to nurse in public, you could go in a dressing room! GL, mama.

  • Dressing room is a great idea (i'm way to shy to BF in public and don't like the nursing cover much). Thanks!
  • have yourself packed up, dressed and ready to go - then immediately after a feed/change you head out the door...if you don't want to NIP, just keep your outing short...its amazing how freeing an hour or two out of the house can be...GL!

  • It's really not so bad. Remember, if they act up you can always get in the car and go home. Also, there are plenty of baby friendly places you can go. I don't know how your babies react to the car, but mine are so rocked to sleep by the car and stroller that I usually have zero problems taking them to target, babies r us, etc.

  • Just do it the more you do the easier it gets.

I always went stocked with hand sanitizer, blankets, pacifiers, diapers, wipes, burp cloths, and a nursing cover I used mine all the time, but also used dressing rooms a lot.

I disagree with pp about drinking enough. I EBFed and was thirsty all the time. Drink up your stroller will most likely fit in the handicapped stalls. And if not, I just leave the door open.

  • Oh, and don't be shy about telling people not to touch the babies. If they think you're rude, so what?
