My mom was in back labor from 2 am until they decided I was a total brat and went in and harvested me at 10 pm. On top of being a few days late. Sorry Ma!
Our lil' diva: late like her Momma: 40 weeks 5 days!
My Mom waited a little to long to get to the hospital with me ... I started crowning in the elevator with just my Dad and a nurse in there. So yeah, she says my birth was her easiest out of four. (Three natural, my youngest brother had to be delivered via emergency C-section.)
We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.
“So can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I’m still young?
I wanna hold her hand and show her some beauty before all this damage
is done. But if it’s too much to ask, it’s too much to ask … Then send
me a son.” – Arcade Fire
Oh, I gave my mom a rough time. It was when they wouldn't let you up once they had you at the hospital. 26 hours with pitocin, no progression of her cervix. Finally talks the people into letting her walk across the room to the rocking chair. They check her in the bed, she's at 6. She gets up, walks to the chair, squats and tells the nurse she needs to check her.
Nurse checks and she's at 10. Asks for the epidural and the nurse said, "Oh no, no. You're past getting an epidural."

Fun fact: My mom "thought" she was having a big baby boy.
She went into labor a month early and delivered a tiny 4lb baby girl. All was well. Doctor left....10 minutes later my mom asked the nurse what was wrong. Something was still happening. Surprise! Out came me, another 4lb girl!
What was expected to be a large boy turned out to be twin girls.
I said with an epidural but I'm pretty sure epidurals weren't as common back then. My mom got some drugs to help with the pain but I think it was like IM demerol or something like that , which is not used often anymore. Epidural seemed like the closest answer though.
I'm glad improvements have been made in the last 20-30 years regarding pain control!
Epidurals were widely used as far back as the late 60s/early 70s. The method was a little different than it is today, and they used to call them "spinals" or "caudal blocks" or "nerve blocks".
My mom barely made it to the hospital with me. I think she had about an hour and a half from pulling in the parking lot to holding a baby girl. I don't think she had an epidural...but I'm not sure.
I was born within 20 minutes of my mom arriving at the hospital. She had irregular contractions all night, and for some reason decided to check herself. She said she couldn't feel her cervix so she woke up my dad and went to the hospital.
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo(06.06.13)
You'll like mine Grace...my Mom delivered me "doggy-style".
It was the only position she could be in where my heart rate didn't decline. If they had been able to get an anesthesiologist there in time I would have been a c-section but it was Thanksgiving day and the hospital was understaffed.

My poor mom was in labor with me for 36 hours with no meds. Only to find out after all those hours that I was breech. Then she had a c-section. Needless to say, she was not happy with the Dr.
With my brother my mother was strapped down and had an old type of epidural which meant she had to lay flat and not raise her head for 8 hours after the birth.
She changed OBs for me. She had 5 miscarriages between my brother and I. I was born in 1974 before u/s. She had to have a circlage (sp) and was on strict bedrest with me for an incompetent cervix. She had me with no epidural at the hospital. I suspect I was a few weeks early as I was only 5lbs5oz at birth.

I came several weeks early, and was my mom's "difficult" labor at 4 hours. She had some pain shot with my sister, but I'm pretty sure nothing with me. I REALLY hope I take after her (2 kids, one 6 lbs in 2 and a half hours, and one 4 lbs in 4 hours).

Oh man!! Thats crazy. What a great birth story though. lol
Apparently epidurals weren't very common when I was born and they tried to give my mom Demoral. She reacts badly to narcotics, and when she had my sister she allowed them to give her Demoral and all she remembers is an 8 hour contraction because she would pass out between contractions. The dr's apparently gave her a hard time about an epidural and my dad finally had to step in and say if "you give this tiny lady (140lbs 9 months prego and 5' 3") the elephant sized epidural or you WILL regret it. NOW"

I was more a special snowflake option - I was born in a hospital, but not without any medication (but no epidural). My mom had a horrible tooth infection, so they gave her some sort of oral pain medication.
I will take that over my sister's birth - in the middle of a snowstorm, very close to my dad delivering her in the car, she was born 10 minutes after they arrived at the hospital and then my mom almost bled to death. Thank goodness they made it to the hospital.

My mom was induced 2 weeks early since she had pre-e. She sat in the hospital for 4 days waiting for me to come. Then she went from 0 to pushing in 15 minutes, begged for an epidural and couldn't have one because it was too late, and the doctor made it into the room when I was already halfway out and screaming. I am a barrel of laughs!
(Then my little brother was 2 weeks late and 10+ lbs... she did manage to get an epi for him.)

Harvested! Love it, lol!
I weighed almost 11 pounds when I was born. Of course, I was also 3 WEEKS late. Gotta love the 80s.
