Weight Loss Post Baby

I'm hoping to train for the Vegas half marathon in November. I hate running, but I do it because it's the only exercise I seem to be able to do year-round, with no equipment, that gives me results. I've got to do something or I'm going to be 35 and fat and that's no good!

Anyone else looking forward to this or making any plans?

Re: Weight Loss Post Baby

  • I have never been into exercise, but I am looking forward to going for walks with DD once the weather gets a little warmer. I'm also going to have to do some kind of abdominal exercise to try and get my stomach back to normal.

  • Dd wanted to dance, I thought it was going to kill me, I need to exercise.  I used to do a lot of yoga and walking.
  • DH and I cancelled our cable and will get a gym membership once I am cleared by my OB. I am really looking forward to exercising again.

The gym also has daycare, so I will want to go just to get a break from the babies and take a shower alone after my workout.

  • I have to wait until being cleared cuz I have this horrible tendency to go to hard when I'm not supposed to.  I have to stay away until I'm allowed. DS and I will be hitting the road with the jogging stroller

  • I cannot wait to start running and exercising again post-baby! Question though for all of your runners - I have heard you have to wait for awhile before you are able to use the jogging stroller with LO. Is that everyone else's understanding / experience or were you able to start jogging with them pretty soon after you were cleared for exercise?
  • I am looking forward to being able to go up and down stairs and carry heavy things again without feeling like I'm going to collapse! :P

No laid out plans for working out, but that'll come upon observing my PP body, I'm sure ;)  I'm NOT looking forward to saggy belly + stretch marks Tongue Tied

  • The biggest concern here is baby's head control. If you have sufficient neck support, you and baby will be fine as long as you start off easy. Otherwise, it is best, for safety, to wait until little one has control over their neck.
Trust me, I can't wait to work out again! I'm planning on a Nov come back marathon so I want to hit the road ASAP!
  • I'm planning to do a 10K on May 11th, hoping to be able to train for about 4 weeks before which means potentially starting around 5 weeks post baby.  Really dont know what to expect though as far as how long it will take me to heal and bounce back. I realize it may potentially be too ambitious but I'll see how it goes. Anyway good luck with your training, I can't wait to get back out there.

Someone recently told me that labor is a lot like distance running...I don't really believe them but I am trying to! I don't mind a half marathon but childbirth is something I am still not sure I can do!

  • I'm looking forward to walks too when the weather is warmer and I'm feeling 100% recovered from my nightmare c-section. But, just 1 week post partum I've lost 22 pounds! So that's encouraging!
