Nap time Meltdowns

Hello!  I'm usually a lurker but I am in desperate need of some help getting my itty bitty to nap.  He was doing really well with sleep training, but about 3 weeks ago had his regression period and things haven't improved since.  He gets all nice and sleepy for nap time; I use a sound machine, hum/sing, rock/bounce, but no matter how close to sleep he is as soon as I put him in his crib he has a meltdown.  We use the PUPD method.  I was able to get him down in 5-15 min, but now it can easily take over an hour of full blown screaming.  Once he starts it seems like nothing I do can calm him down.  I have tried nursing, rocking/bouncing, singing, walking.  Sorry if I'm rambling, he's screaming now and I'm distracted.  I would really appreciate any ideas!

Re: Nap time Meltdowns

  • I don't really have any advice. We also are having a hard time with naps. My dd sleeps through the night in her crib fine, but won't nap in there. I feel like we have no good place to put her for a nap now that she's bigger she used to live the swing. Good luck!

  • No good advice either but I am right there with you.  I think there might be something else going on bc as soon as he hits that crib he starts screaming, only for naps. We are taking the week off naps right now because DH is out of town for 10 days and my sitters and I can't take the tears anymore.  We are just choosing a time when things get quiet, we play some soft music and let him play by himself on the floor and crawl up and cuddle with us if he wants but we try to be mellow and quiet. I do this in the morning and my sister does it mid-afternoon.  3 days in and its going great, DS is in a great mood and sleeping well at night.  I'll never figure this kid out.  Obviously this won't work if your LO seems to need the actual nap.  Good luck.
