My two year old is in a rear to front facing evenflo from Walmart it was less than 100 and is easy to use and is holding up well so far. Ds has been in it for a year and a half. I think we'll get the same for Lucas when he turns 1.
When they're ready for a high back booster we'll buy a separate one since the recommendations change so often I don't think a true convertible from rear to boaster is a good idea.
The Evenflo Momentum is within your price range and gets great safety reviews. It's really big, though, so if at all possible, go to BRU and try it out in your car. It was too big to fit rear facing in my Vibe, but fits well in DH's Equinox
I really need to start looking into conv carseats... although we do have some time left in our carrier, being that he is still very small. I love reading what other moms like on here, makes it a little easier to shop around...

I agree! My daughter is getting to big to carry around in her infant seat so I have been leisurely looking into convertibles. Thanks for everyone's recommendations.
I'm so jealous of the people still able to use the carriers all winter. Seems so much easier in the cold weather. DD reached the height limit on hers at 7.5 months, so we've been using the convertible seats since December!
