This made the news here last week - Anyone care to share their thoughts on the matter?
And because it's not clicky, I'll C&P the article:
Dad must pay child support for 3 kids that aren't his: Court rules
MONTREAL - A father has been ordered to pay child support to his ex-wife despite results of DNA testing that found three of the four children he helped raise are not biologically his, a Quebec Superior Court ruled.
The man learned the shocking news after he demanded DNA testing when he and his wife of 16 years separated in April 2010.
?Since I learned that I am a broken man,? the father told QMI Agency.
His daughters are aged 12, 14, and 16, and his son is nine. DNA testing revealed the son is his only biological child.
To make matters worse, his ex-wife told him his three daughters were all fathered by different men, he said.
The man said he was aware his wife cheated on him several times, but was floored when he discovered the results.
?I was naive ... I never thought I could not be the father of my children,? he said.
Re: How about a little debate?
My thoughts: I think this situation REALLY sucks for the guy.
I understand the ruling, though. Regardless of DNA, he has been those kids' dad for all these years. He willingly provided for all of them the same as if they had biologically been his. As unsettling this type of news must be, I can't imagine he feels any differently towards his children now (his ex, though, that's another story). And at this point, I think the children's well being is what matters the most.
It really is unfair that he is stuck in such a crappy situation though. If I were in his shoes, I would definitely look for some sort of financial contribution from the bio dads (this article doesn't say it, but he actually knows who all 3 other fathers are).
Wow first off. And I don't think he should HAVE TO pay for the kids that arn't his. But I know if I was a guy in that situation and I had raised 3 kids for that long I would want to make sure they were taken care off. DNA or not. But that's just me. I mean it's not the kids fault your wife was a douch canoe.
