I would definitely get a crib. They are sturdier and more comfortable for your little one. You might still need to get a pack n play for travel, If you plan to travel a lot.
I would get a crib, a mini crib if space is an issue.
This! A playard/pack n play just isn't comfortable enough for a child if they're going to be sleeping in it long term. But if you do go that route, they make mattress inserts for them to beef it up for comfort.
We have this crib at our lake house, it's very affordable and has a really cute vintage throw back feel. It's small, so it won't take up a lot of space and it gets good reviews for safety. It's the Jenny Lind Davinci...
I'd choose the crib, preferably one that converts into a toddler bed for maximum versatility. You can look for a mini crib if space is really tight, but you can also find smaller footprint cribs at IKEA for less then the price of a fancy PnP. The PnP are just not comfortable for extended sleeping beyond the newborn stage.
