Whyyyy?????!!
J has taken one nap since Thursday. He is currently singing in his crib instead of sleeping. Soon there will be screaming. He used to be such an awesome napper. And of course this starts when I'm starting the first tri exhaustion. Sigh.
He's also been ridiculously clingy and whiny ever since I got my bfp. I think it's because I've been making appointments and talking about doctors and that subject freaks him out. I feel sorry for him, but I can't carry him all day, and that just makes him even more upset.
How can I get him to nap?? I was nursing him before naps, but my supply is essentially zero right now. I'm scared of starting a new nap routine, but I will if it means we get naps back!
I used to be a big deal. Now I'm just old.
Re: Noooo naps
One of my girlfriends who has 2u2, told me I really needed to streamline my routine and make him fall asleep on his own, cause once new baby comes, I'm not gonna have time for all that BS.
I told him, from now on, you are going to go to sleep like a big boy. I will read you two books, and then you'll go in your crib and go night night. So that's what we started doing. For two weeks, it took him an hour to fall asleep. But I wouldn't go in there. In the past week or so, he's been falling asleep within 15 to 20 minutes. No more fussing, no more crying. He lays his head down and goes right to sleep.
We don't have the nursing situation, so I'm not sure how that plays into it. But I do understand because I was in the first trimester as well and it was making me crazy! Hope you get some naps soon!
Mr. No Nap Nate has had his nickname since he was born, but officially gave them up at home about the same time he turned two. Somehow daycare can still get him to nap. I claim peer pressure there.
Ugh, I'm sorry you guys are having trouble too. I really miss the opportunity to clean, or relax, or nap myself. :P
I've been feeling like we need to streamline the process for a while, too. His bedtime routine takes for.ev.er. It's milk, diaper, jammies, teeth, prayer, stories, bed. Nap time was just nurse, and sleep. So I'm kind of scared to change to a routine similar to bed time. Maybe we need to just make them identical and short. I'm not sure how I can make it any shorter though except to cut out the milk and the teeth brushing, but I don't think that will go over very well.
I think you're totally right, though, about getting him used to a simpler routine before #2 comes along. I just need to figure out how to accomplish it!
DS has been skipping naps a lot lately too. Or if he takes one, it is generally a cat-nap late in the day (like right before dinner).
He seems to do ok without the extra sleep, so we're not forcing the issue, but I know DH missed having the down time when he's home all day with DS.
I don't think he's ready for that yet. He hasn't tried to climb out of the crib yet, and he usually goes right to sleep at bedtime.
I'm going to try a few more days of nursing him, and if this continues I'll try a new routine and see how that goes. I'm not giving up on naps yet!!!
We've done a shortened version of bedtime routine for naps for a long time. So far so good. Even when I still nursed C, he just couldn't pay attention right before naps/bed so I pumped/bottled those times since maybe 9 months?
Bedtime - milk while doing diaper and pjs (see, saving time there already, haha!), stories (max 3), potty, teeth, in bed w/ two short songs and prayers
Nap - diaper, stories (max 3), in bed w/ two short songs
Good luck Halo! Mama needs her rest!
