First day alone

My husband is back to work, my mom left on Friday, spending my first day alone with my little man...and I feel like a deer in the headlights! I feel so stupid but seriously, what now? I have literally just been sitting holding my son in my chair all morning because I just dont know what to do other than nurse him and change him. Wondering what other people did to work their way out of this stagnant feeling. Please tell me I'm not alone!

  • I did exactly that however add in tears. Hope you have water and munchies in easy reach! It gets better ... insert reassuring smile here.

  • i remember that day!  I was terrified for about an hour.   Then i wandered around and found photo props and set up a mini photo shoot on the kitchen table.  it was good fun.  Day two I went to lunch with friends, day 3 we went for a walk.  Just try to think of little activities that make you happy that you can work in between nursing and napping.

  • You're definitely not alone. I'm on my second week, and I still feel pretty lost. I'm trying to get back into some of my old routine as far as household chores go to make me feel more normal.

  • I was that way with my first LO. We just layed on the couch a lot those first few weeks. This time I have a toddler to keep me busy. You'll be okay! Find a good book to read.

  • I fortunately get my husband for many more weeks. I'm glad b/c little man is such a cuddler and seems not very interested in the swing, crib, bassinet, anything. Just wants to be held. This may be #3 for me but it doesnt feel like it right now. Plus, throw in that my 13 year old is having issues with us having a baby( he never did warm up to the thought). It's been emotionally and physically draining.

  • Enjoy your LO!! You don't HAVE to do anything, taking care of your LO is all you need to do and it sounds like that's exactly what you're doing.  I'm sure he's loving all the cuddles and mommy time!!!   But if it's bothering you try to make plans to have lunch with some girl friends.  Or a quick trip to the mall even just to window shop.  I love PP idea about doing a photo shoot.

Wow! It took me a week after DH returned to work to take my LO out for a short neighborhood walk. Another werk before I started having some friends stop in for short visits but we didn't go anywhere. Wasn't driving until 6 weeks pp ... had csection; the first car trip out for just the two of us was to meet up with DH for lunch and then I took LO to a nearby baby store went straight to their diaper and feeding room and was there for a few hours because after changing a blowout diaper, LO was hungry, then fell asleep, then had a second blowout. The other moms that came along were WONDERFUL! Was like there was an impromptu support group. Made me feel much more confident. Give it time and like someone else said, try to do one small thing each day.

  • Yes, enjoy!  I am just now getting out of my pj's and washed my face.  I managed to brush my teeth this morning for the early feeding.  Phew.  haha  But really enjoy it, these days go so fast!  :)
  • The only things I must do for myself these days:  Brush my teeth, eat, use the restroom, shower, put on deodorant, take my meds.  EVERYTHING else is optional and dependent on what kind of day LO is having.  Sometimes these things don't happen until DH is home and that's okay.  Don't worry about routine!

Set up a "nursing station".  Be in front of the tv with your laptop and books.  Have the remote, snacks, water, nipple cream, burp cloths, and a bassinet (unless you're baby wearing) handy.  When he sleeps go to the bathroom, grab a snack, and take a nap!  When he's awake but not hungry play with him, read him stories, sing to him, dance with him, or just cuddle.

  • It wasn't until the twins started crying that I went.. ok.. now what??  But I ended up with a little table next to the bed. Had all my knitting stuff, water etc.

  • Just enjoy it.  I was like that with DS - kind of bored.  Now that we have a 3 year old and a newborn, I wish I had more quiet time to just hold her and enjoy her like I did with him.
