I think a few of you weighed in a few weeks ago on baby names, but I'm going to ask again...
What do you think of Malin? (May-Lin) dd is hazel. Our last name ends in -is. Dh is dragging his feet because he somehow thinks it sounds southern (it's Scandinavian). I think that with a bad drawl anything can sound southern.
love it? Hate it?
No clue on middle name. If dh concedes ill let him pick
Re: Another baby name....
I think Malin and Hazel go well together. To me, they both feel unique enough without being yoo-nik, YKWIM?
The only thing holding me back on Malin would be the fact it means "mean" or "evil" in French. Obviously that would matter to me a lot because of my background, but I don't think I'd give it much of a second thought if I ever met a Malin in real life (especially because the pronunciation May-Lin is pretty far from the French pronunciation of the word "malin")
I like it.
Malin Jane
Malin Grace
Malin rose
I'm pretty sure there was a character with that name in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I couldn't keep the Swedish names straight, so I don't actually remember which character she was. I also thought it was pronounced MAH-lin, but I never looked it up.
My second thought was Sally Field's character on Steel Magnolias (pronounced mah LIN), but IMDB says it's spelled M'Lynne. Yikes.
Anyway - I think that you'd get a lot of people pronouncing it mah-LIN. If you're okay with mispronounciations, then I think it's a nice name. Not my style, by Hazel and Malin do sound cute together.
