Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9.5 month old...

First time mom here to a 9.5 month old. Wanted to share a couple things and possibly get some feedback. My expectations may be high but not really sure.
Breastfed baby still wakes up between 3am5am to nurse. Goes down by 730 and up around 7/730. "Normal"??

Baby follows me everywhere!! Can't do anything! Climbs, hugs, holds, stands, cries, yells! Barely can find anything to grab her attention for more than 5/10 minutes. Trying all different things, for her sake and mine. "Normal"??

Only person my daughter won't cry with is mommy, daddy, Grammy, papa, which are her 4 caregivers. Someone looks at her wrong and she will flip out! Certain noises or objects can make her scared and shake. "Normal"??

Every baby is different, this is the separation anxiety, and stranger danger time, I know. But maybe you can share or shed some light! Thanks!!

Re: 9.5 month old...

  • I cant help with the first point, we stopped BFing around 5 months due to low supply, and LO has been STTN since a little before 6 months.  The only time we had a problem was when we moved her to her own bed, but it was only a few nights.

As far as baby following you everywhere.  We have found a few things will grab LOs attention.  She has a wagon, which we pile in toys, books, pillows from the couch, stuff from her diaper bag, anything that will fit.  She will pull herself up on the side of the wagon and throw things out, one at a time.  Sometimes I will fill up my purse with random, baby friendly items and she will take them out.  She doesnt, at 10 1/2 mo, play with much, just throws everything around.  We choose not to do TV, but that would probably hold babies attn too!  Also, if we are having an especially clingy day and I need to get something done, I will just wear her on my back and we will get things done together.

As far as the crying with looks, lol, that sounds like separation anxiety.  It does get better, I promise.  My LO had it so bad, my husband could barely hold her if I was around.  Its amazing what a difference one month can make!  Dont know if this helps at alll, but GL!

yes.  technically STTN is meant to mean 6 hours or so.

Yup.  She won't want to be around you when she's a teenager.  Get all the hugs in that you can now! (as trying as it can be when you want a minute to drink a coffee in peace!)

Yup. DD is starting to want to be able to see me at all times. Again... this won't be the case when she's a teenager.

  • Do any of you have a lot of people able to babysit lo? Does your lo except anyone?
  • OP, all 3 sound extremely normal.  Congratulations you have a healthy 9.5 year old!

My 12 month old still wakes to nurse.  And honestly NOT eating from 7 pm til 4/5 am is a long time.  That is considered STTN in my book.
