This isn't exactly an "allergy" question, but close enough I suppose. DS was diagnosed with MSPI and I have done the elimination diet. Things are going well. He gained less than a pound his first 9 weeks of life, but then shot up like crazy once we figured out the issues. He's now 4 months (or close to) and is EBF, and weighs 17 pounds! Needless to say, hes not hurting for calories.
So, my pedi is wonderful, but unfortunately inexperienced with MSPI. She actually referred us to a pedi GI for the diagnosis. I'm having a hard time finding research about introducing solids. Please give me any info you can on this subject!
I'd prefer to exclusively BF for as long as possible, and not start on any foods for as long as we can hold out. Would it be unreasonable to expect to EBF until 1 year? My understanding is that starting solids is mostly just so baby can explore new foods...not because he NEEDS them?
We just struggled with the MSPI reactions and baby was suffering, I dont want to upset baby again! It seems BM is doing him well...I mean hes HUGE. Thoughts, opinions...links?!
Thank you for any information
Re: MSPI and solids
An MSPI baby can eat solids and be perfectly fine. We started with avocado, sweet potato and then green beans. Now at 9 months my son eats everything that we eat. Just because he has MSPI does not mean that he will have other food allergies.
At first we introduced a new food every 4 days to check for reaction. Now we have no worries.
